Default Headlight removal legality

I had the random thought of removing the passengers side inner headlight (hi-beam only) and replacing it with a straight through pipe to the intake box.
i very, very rarely do any driving where there arent any street lights, and even then there would still be the hi/lo of both outers and the hi only of the other inner.
my only concern is the legality of it.
i am assuming it would be illegal to remove it, but i am not 100% sure.
anyone know for sure?

You could investigate converting the outside lights to low/high and this should get around any issues with not having high beam.

Default Headlight removal legality

Thinking of having something like this in the spot with the pipe going straight into the airbox.

More w@nk factor than anything else, but should make it look cool and sound nuts.

The legality would be fine given that there is still a set of both low and high beams in accordance with the ADR's.

Cheers

One on the drivers side would be too difficult to duct to the intake box.

I would think you would have to remove both inner lights, left and right. There is some ruling about lights at the front being in pairs. from what I understand you posted, you would still have the outer most pair, but only a single inner on the drivers side.
Having said that I do see 4x4 vehicles with non paired spot/driving lights.

Why bother - for the 0.5kw it would give you?

I did this once as I'd previously found a gain drag racing without the headlight infront of the airbox.

It didnt really give any benefit though over the normal headlight, so I abandoned it.

The other day I opened up the front of the airbox and removed the small bit if trim between the grill and behind the headlights on that side so there is a straight through path to the airbox.

(I sat a screwdriver in the box so you can see the path)

I did notice a difference on the buttdyno but that may have been just placebo effect.
Was thinking that doing it this was would the most efficient way.
Not sure now.
As I said, it would be more for w@nk factor than anything else.

I thought it was illegals to lower the output of the stock lights?

Ie, you can't make them less effective than factory lights.

Although in qld it's perfectly legal to completely cover them in daylight hours.

If I didn't have to take the whole bumper off to take the headlight out then I would just do it for the 2-3 times per year that I plan on taking her on the track. But that's a pain in the @rse.
