Yes, heel and toe when braking. That's the only way isn't it?

I believe a good crackle comes from more efficient exhaust scavenging. Only from anecdotal evidence though.

I had twin 2" exhaust after 4 into 1 heads on an AFR headed 306. Sounded angry. Put twin 2.5" and she sounded angrier, and had massive crackle from a high RPM lift off. Nothing else was changed except from the header flange back.

Yes, the "Crackle and Pop" that occurs on deceleration is a function of the tune in the PCM. The background is that when a deceleration condition occurs, the PCM / ECM uses a different timing table than the normal high / low tables. This "coast down" timing table is used to help slow the car down and assist with engine braking. This table is used prior to entering Deceleration Fuel Cut Off ( DFCO ) and in stock form tends to have negative timing values.

When you start to slow down and use the engine to aid in braking, this table is used and the timing values go from BTDC to ATDC. Because the timing has been pulled so far back, the fuel burns slower and is still burning when the exhaust valve opens. This results in some unburnt mixture entering the exhaust with the burning mixture, and as the gases expand they explode in the exhaust. This results in the pop / crackle.

If you get the car tuned, many tuners will dull the coast down table down a bit so it will reduce the occurrence of the pop / crackle before DFCO kicks in and stops it.

Because racecar...

Probably just get your car impounded if you've got a modified car that does it in QLD under normal street driving conditions though.

I'm on the fence about it- sometimes it can sound horrible. One example I do like is the SLS AMG, such a beautiful sound-

Mercedes and BMW’s performance cars do it in normal driving conditions and get away with it without worries.

Because the cops automatically pull over the falcon/commodore in the lane next to it.
