Default Finding your old car?!

is there anyway you can search or find out
who owns an old car that you have previously
owned but now sold?

I sold my car 1.5 yrs ago to a dealer and have since
seen it driving around. I'd like to speak to the
owner about buying it off him. Wouldn't mind just
seeing it again to see what it's like nowadays..

thanks guys

SPeak to the dealer that you sold the car to. Maybe they can contact the person they sold it to. Maybe they still have to car.

I think that going to the dealer is a waste of time. I doubt that the dealer will take the time to call them on your behalf. Legally, they cannot tell you who they sold it to either.
If they did tell you, who is to say that the person they sold it to still has possession?
If you really want it, you're probably better off following it next time you see it.

If I bought a 2nd hand car, I would be rightfully annoyed if the dealer passed on my details to a previous owner.

The dealer can always pass on your details to the owner and if they want they can call you.Better done with a home phone number with a mobile number as a back up.

Yeah the above options are all you really have. Either that or hunt around for it. I seen my BA XR6 the other day which I traded 6 years ago, in pristine condition still, unchanged!!

Wife searched for our BA XR8 (the one still in our avatar) shortly after we traded it on the G6ET using the rego number on Google. Found it for sale on the Ford Muscle Cars site.
Reading this thread prompted me to try the same again. Found it this time on the Mannheim Auctions site for sale as a statutory right-off with extensive front end damage....bugger

Wish it was that easy! I'd love to find a certain GT Coupe from 36 years ago!

You gave the car to a bloke without getting paid for it first?

How come?

He was a good friend of mine Sparky. He was going to catch up with me in a week or two with the money. He just never did. As far as I'm concerned the deal stands, he can keep the car. So long as one day he brings the money plus interest of course: )

The dealer can get into a lot of trouble for handing on any information regarding who has purchased a car sold by them.. its not worth risking your job. It happened at an old dealership I worked at and the salesman was nearly sacked.

At no point has anyone suggested the dealer provide the current owner details to the previous owner..
It is illegal and every dealer knows this.

If you sell a car, let it go. As Fanttome found out, your old car may not be in as good as condition as before.

I sold my old laser, was my first car, I saw it driving around and I just followed it to where ever he was going. was a 30min drive out of my way. but when he pulled up I pulled up behind him and just said hey mate, this is my old car, I was just wondering how it was going and if you wanted to sell it.
He was alittle freaked out at first but we stood around and chatted for awhile, he loved the car thought it was great, really looked after it.
didn't sell it back to me tho :(

You're a better man than me.

I'd be giving him a call to either pay up at today's market price or return it, if he fails to do so tell him you'll be reporting it stolen. He'll find the cash pretty fast.
