Well, as part of an estate I have been given a March 1995 White NF Fairlane. It's a V8 and its on gas.
Now the problem is it's been sitting in a paddock for the past 3 or 4 years - due to the fact that it had some electrical problems. I went and saw it today, and i'm beginning to wonder whether it's too far gone or not. So here's a list of good and bad: Relatively straight body Rust in the inside corners of all doors Paint is filthy - i'd say it would be pretty average underneath the years of grime Cranks but doesn't fire Relays broken and missing Interior in average condition - seats are nice, t-bar shifter and handbrake have gone all gooey from cooking in the sun Tyres are shot There may well be numerous more spots of rust around the place and unknown electrical gremlins. It kinda looks like the fairlane in this thread. Now, what do you think - fix her up or part her out?

If the car doesn't have any sentimental value to you then wreck it. Not worth the trouble imo

Hi. I did vote fix it but after reading the post fully the best thing is to use as many parts as possible to upgrade an older or lower spec car, sell complete or do it yourself as a project. Cheers MD

Part it out, you'd probably get more for the interior, electrics and other working parts than the car itself. Besides, if you really wanted an NF, you could pick one up for bugger all these days.

Part it out, then take the body to the metal recycler. That will yeild the best return.

How about stripping it and making it an AFF drag car?

Not to many V8 Fairlanes made. So if time isn't an issue, why not fix it?

A wheel alignment fixes everything, when it comes to front end issues. This includes any little noises. Please read the manual carefully, as the these manufacturers spent millions of dollars making sure it is perfect.....Now why are there so many problems with my car, when I follow the instructions to the letter?....Answer, majority rules round here Lock me up and throw away the key because I'm a hoon....I got caught doing 59 in a 60 zone |

Fairlanes are one of those cars that are either kept good (ie. well maintained garaged and geneally preserved and loved etc), or they are not. If it's neglected, rusted, perished and not running, then it's probably better to let her go. Save the stress, coin, and busted knuckles for something you truly desire

I think this is a lunch conversation for tomorrow, however after a quick glance at that list, I'll put it to you this way....
If you weren't given it, would you go out and buy one? The idea behind that is for example, if I was given an XC, it's a car I would have been prepared to drop serious coin on to bring it back to life. However if I was given a run of the mill fairmont with rust in all doors, engine that didn't fire etc etc... I would be very hesitant as there is no point doing a car up that you don't have your heart invested in. If you were to do it as a project for some weekend fun, that's another matter. I would weigh up weather or not it would be worth it to invest my time and money into that particular one when you can get a clean example for around ~$5-6K, running and rego'd and then go from there. ... or build it into a track car :P

Probably take the mechanicals out to use in another car.
Sell off all the other bits, take the body to the metal recyclers. Thats what I'd do at least.

What are they worth ??? Time is money unfortunately Do you have the time to wait or be stuffed around by dreamers ??? Do you have the time to pull bits of then put on evilbay and get bugger all for them ??? Do an EOI on here see whats its worth AS IS Help out fellow forums users IF no interest , on ebay If its not something thats of interest to you Dont waste time or money on it Out the door |

Potential money pit. Strip it, let it find new life in someone else's hands, and put the cash towards somethign you actually want and like, not what lands in your lap.
If it was a Fairlane By Tickford or something like that.........my response actually wouldn't change. Unless you are passionate about the car, and willing to keep reaching into your wallet, save yourself the grief.

A '95 Fairlane can look damn fine, and by the description, there are worse ones than that driving around the streets. Take it, spend a small amount to get a mechanic or auto electrician to assess what needs doing, and take it from there. |

From the talk we had today I think the electrics are pretty much kaput!
Could waste a VERY long time doing it yourself or a VERY large sum of money at an auto elec. Not worth it IMO
