wicked photo's, that monaro looks like its riding on Speedy Cheetah's - only a few years old so i wouldn't call it a barn find as they were obviously collected and maintained, albeit a little dirty - but it is Africa..

Talk about passionate!... Are they talking Sth African GTs or poaching frigging ivory?...
It wasn't too long back that these Sth African "GTs" were regarded like lepers here! But, then, like everything times change....

No plugging of the cars mate I was simply telling people that may be interested in purchasing a Fairmont GT that they can PM Private message me for his phone number if interested. As I'm the Admin I get loads of enquire's about persons seeking to purchase a GT and as you may understand to answer every email takes time I have never once taken a cent in commission for finding guys cars I'm just happy to see a persons dream to have one come true.Where was it written about "TOMS" last couple of cars?? In actual fact he still has many so I think your wrong to say I was plugging his cars without knowing the facts.

My interest is in the preservation of these cars. Yes these cars were regarded as leppers & I have worked my butt off to change this & achieved the result I was after.


I say good luck to him for having such a collection I banned his father for his comments towards another member not for purchasing this collection.

I know i will be shot down in flames with some emotionally charged replies but it is
amazing what people pay for what is in reality a pretty ordinary car. Sure, they are rare, but it is just an old Falcon with a Holley, a small block, a toploader, a 9 inch and 4 doors, wow. Don't get me wrong, i love the blast from the past feeling when i see a nice resto, but i don't think i would really enjoy owning one. I'd be too scared to drive it and the performance isn't exactly mind blowing to tempt me go out and actually enjoy it. I don't think i could convince myself to pay $20000 for one let alone the drug- money prices some people seem to be paying. Oh well, each to their own, i'll continue admiring others' cars.

Its one of the biggest driving thrills to own and drive a 30 year old peice of muscle, love it and worth the money if you can or almost can afford it.

Now your talkin'. A car with performance that truly lives up to the muscle car image would always have to be worth more wouldn't it? But seriously, although i really would love a matching numbers car, a mock up can be built for a fraction of the cost and i can then really enjoy driving it the way it should be driven.

I will try in my words to describe what its like to be in a classic muscle car. I have been exposed to both sides of the spectrum. i had one brother who fell in love with chargers the very day they were released. he cant stop talking and reading and fiddling around with his E38 to this day. my other bother went nuts over Allan Moffat and Falcon GT from day one, he bought many many falcon V8 coupes and sedans over the last 20 years. my uncles mostly bought amercian cars all their lives. They still do. i owned a corolla once...

this is the essential difference. the corolla gave years and years of loyal reliable A-B tranport. the problem is you are invisible. you don t have an identity when you drive an A-B reliable safe car.

when i have been in the charger, the V8 Coupes, the thunderbirds, mustangs, cadillacs, galaxies, Matador X (you never seen one of these i bet...), there is a part of your soul that becomes alive in cars like this.

you can never feel that part of your soul come alive when you are in a corolla...

i understand what you are saying - i cannot believe that people will pay over $30,000 for a car that is 35 years old. only me and my panel beater know how good or bad my car is. it is a huge risk to pay so much money on something that has a shiny paint job, but is falling apart underneath

i also understand the other side to the argument. i had wanted a coupe and only a coupe since i was 4 and got mine as my first car. i was lucky that was 22 years ago, so the prices were not as rediculous as they are now. it is good for me that i bought then and mine has lasted, because with my passion, i would be tempted to buy one now and that would surely test my sanity and priorities

of course, having bought one at a decent price in the 80's didn't stop me from spending too much over the next 22 years - all pretty much maintenance - it has never been off the road
