Default Holden recalls 9000 Commodores

www.abc.net.au

About 9,000 Holden VE Commodores have been recalled because of a potential problem with the side airbag in the driver's seat.

Holden says there is a possibility the airbag in the Adelaide-built cars could come away from the seat frame and go off when the car has stopped and the driver is getting out.

The company's spokeswoman, Kate Lonsdale, says there is also a possibility the airbag will lose its effectiveness in a crash.

She says not all the cars will be affected and the recall is just a precaution at this stage.

"Letters will be sent to customers who may own one of these models and they should be receiving those letters today," she said.

"A public advertisement has also gone out and we have a customer centre hotline that people can call if they want to question if their car is affected."

It probably hasn't been much of a problem/no one has noticed the problem yet because it is EXTREMELY rare....

All I can recall in recent times is the AU2 Steering rack nut and the BA rear brake hose recalls.

In that time the VT had over 10+, as well as the subsequent models.

Yet everyone bags Falcons for being unreliable.

Not a recall as such but BA/BF's painted in Shockwave being resprayed at Fords expense because of a paint peeling issue has gotta be damn close to a recall scenario.

The handbrake problem should have been a recall...but wasn't....Boot rust becoming apparent ....warped rotors....list goes on.

Don't forget that Holden had another dangerous issue with their cars catching fire due to an oil leak IIRC from the transmission area.

One police car caught fire and was burnt out in Nhill. That affected VS models.

Hyundai had a nasty one with front wheels falling off around the same time if memory serves correct.

How long did it take Ford to do the recall (that wasn't a recall) on the BA brake lines?

Statistically they are, but most were common issues in the BA, as the BF statistcally had less faults then the AUIII. Mind you my BA was a strong unit except for niggling issues, but nothing major.

Toyota also had the one with the front suspension (that Toyota knew about for 9 years) that resulted in a few deaths in Japan. After that happened the problem was then rectified. And the Prius and echo had the cam sensor recall about the same time.
