Default saw a protoype Orion Falcon XR6 Turbo driving along today!!!!

At around 7:30 PM today i saw a strange looking car with a ford badge on it while stopped at the light in Hectorville. It was big, Falcon sized but looked nothing like a BA/BF Falcon but a cross between a Big Mazda 6, a Mondeo and an Audi. It looked quite ugly and ungainly, even more so thatn the AU. I didnt even reconginse it for what it was untill it took off and i saw the Xr6 Turbo badges on it. The weird thing is it was just happily driving along, in clear daylight, without any effort to cover up its identity. The Orion series might have improved engines and better technology but DAMN they are ugly!! What happened to the graceful, streamlined look of the EA-EL series? Just when things were looking up with the BF, (i love the BF Fairmont Ghias look) they make the next gen falcon look ugly again. The rear end had to be the worse, very high boot and small glass area all around.

Hm..interesting, It is quite surprising that they didn't try and cover up its identity, as the XR6T model isn't due to be released for quite some time. However, lucky you for seeing it, if in-fact what you saw was the new orion!

Isn't the Mondeo about the same size as the Falcon. I remember reading somewhere that the only real size difference is in the overall length and that even that wasn't much.

He didn't say that, he said it looked like a bigger version of a Mazda 6/Mondeo/Audi meaning it takes the design features from these cars. He didn't mean it had the same physical dimensions...

In your graceful, sleek EA?

It would certainly be unusual if you saw an Orion without its pants on.

He is prob telling the truth. If its ugly or not is a matter of perosnal opinion. Well not long now until the Orion is shown to the public

yes but JEM would know for a fact that absolutely NO Orion falcons will be out in public without cover on it!

Ford arent stupid, they arent going to let a car that will most probably decide their future here out and about naked

Rofl... an EA is about as graceful and streamlined as a floating toaster. No offence.

Yep, the Mondeo is about the same size as the Falcon, its about 40mm shorter than a Falcon IIRC.

Mitsubishi had 2 lancer VRX's getting around uncovered before their release date. And I came accross 1 not very well discuised VE SS ute prior to their release. I hope he is wrong about the look, I was under the impression these were going to be a hot looking car.

P.S. I take offence to the comment about the AU.

your not fooling anyone if you say the AU looks good - the interior is as ugly as the bodywork, i mean wtf a giant oval for a dash..The tickford versions still look good, but the Standard model is crap. The EL was a much more appealing design, it was much more elegant looking and sleeker. Based on the EA/B/D it also applies to them. The EA is a great design that still looks modern today, compared to something like say a Ford Crown Victoria from the 'states. Same goes for the Fairlanes, the AU looked like some american tank with no style or finesse, while the 94-98 model ones looked very muscular and sleek, kinda like a Lexus LS400. I never liked this buisness of Bubble-looking cars, you cant see out of them properly, hardly any glass area, full of blind spots, HORRIBLY deisgned dashes with oval shaped crap everywhere therefore you get sweet all interiour room, e.t.c. Back in the good old 90s they designed cars that looked like cars, not flying saucers.

99.9999% certain.

Orions DO NOT leave the factory completely undisguised and i highly doubt that the employer driving it would be so stupid to remove all the disguise (especially when it would take considerable effort to undress it, fake panels and all).

I find it far more likely that EA Bogan may have seen something he THOUGHT was an Orion, or maybe he just likes to stir and made the whole thing up! ;)

why is it the people who see these cars 'out of disguise' also never seem to be able to take a picture. every 10 year old in the country has a phone with cameras in them these days....
