Motorist hits tram, speeds away
Article from: July 06, 2007 08:20am

VICTORIA Police are investigating a hit and run with a difference in the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda.

The errant motorist, who was appearing to do a burnout in busy Acland Street at 8.30pm (AEST) yesterday, lost control of his car and slammed into a stationary tram.

To make matters worse, the silver Ford sedan then took off and almost hit a policeman who was helping paramedics treat a drug-affected man in an unrelated incident nearby.

"Fortunately, the offending driver was kind enough to leave the car's bumper bar, with number plate still attached, on the tram tracks," a police spokesman said.

No one has yet been arrested.
Just goes to show Ford isn't immune from idiots buying (or stealing - as may well be the case) their cars.

P.s. I ran a search and found nothing so I hope this isn't a re-post

How dumb would you feel? Driving off possibly thinking you got away with it then you realise the plate was left at the scene :

Reminds me of the story of the guy who was racing through red light cameras with his plates covered up, only to be busted because he didn't remove the "For Sale" sign from the rear window....

You might be thinking of the guy that swiped the plates from the speed camera car then sped past it a few times.... with his for sale sign on the rear window.

I think he was known to a few people on the forum... unquestionably one for the books!

hahah. similar thing happened to someone i know (no, not me). mate of mine lent his car to a friend who happened to be unlicensed. as luck would have it, the brakes failed in the little gemini with the unlicensed friend behind the wheel. he ran up the back of a fairly new merc, panicked and sped off. the gemi's front number plate was left stuck on the back of the merc.

haha, no i wasn't. but the 2 of them were people that i knew very well back then. the guy that owned the gemi had to pay for the damage to the merc and the unlicensed friend never fixed him up for it, needless to say, they weren't friends anymore after that.
