Sounds and looks great BUT, its a front wheel drive. I would never ever ever buy one because of that one thing.

Sounds like a great idea and car. BUT that front end is really looking old IMHO. Especially the lights.

if Mitsubishi Australia want to stay in business, the best thing they could do for themselves is make their cars either AWD or RWD.
220kw (or whatever they are claiming) powering the front wheels.....not my cup of tea.

I agree whole hartedly, but having a japanese parent company means that it's not likely going to happe. :(

They tried that with the TJ Magna's and Verada's. Sales failure.

It wont happen , they and we all know such a car wont sell unless awd , and awd in the 380 is a long way off , also what is not mentioned is the death rattle from MrBishi is becoming stronger buy the day with sales less than 1/3 those predicted and so no profit being made , personally it say failure of the local plant is just a few short months away .( another P76 perhaps ?)

From all accounts this is a pretty good car anyway, sorted suspension, plenty of uncomplicated boosted grunt, nice brakes.

Mitsu do have experience at making top notch FWD sports cars, like the TJ VRX, Ralliart Magna and TF Magna Sports all of which in their day were very competitive. Youve gotta give Mitsu huge credit for being a little adventurous with their tiny (and i mean tiny) development budget and demanding HQ in Japan.

I dont see this car being any different, i think it will be a nice alternative for the lease brigade who are sick of their NA XR6's and VZ SV6's; yes i still know its FWD, but Mitsu tried to be uber adventurous with Australia's first AWD car the TJ/TL AWD's and go hammered for it as did Holden with their AWD, so i dont see AWD coming in the 380 anytime soon.

My Verada has 150 odd KW and the same front end as a 380. Full throttle is NOT fun. Even with the T/C on it axle tramps and wheel spins all over the place.

The big question is, does anyone care. The 380 is a nothing car. The projected sales volumes for the supercharged version are less than 50. :

If they do make a supercharged version, there going to have to make it RWD, like something this powerfull and still a FWD is going to understeer like pig, it will be almost undriveable. I have to say though this might just be what Mitsubishi needs in AUS.

Bring it on!!!!!

Those 380 handle brilliantly as they are, let alone a set of shocks....
380, blown, and manual I will buy.. If its AWD, I will convert from Ford...

Torque steer is an issue, but once you know how to work around it, you can outrun a Falcon.

I have driven an AWD Magna through the National Park. It was one of the better drives through there I have had. Shame about the Gearbox.

The 380 won't and can't have AWD, as the PS41 chassis that it, and the Galant are built on aren't prepped for AWD. If MMAL are still in business in a few years when the 380 comes up for replacement, it will most likely be built on the Outlander/Lancer platform, which does support AWD, and also possibly supports the Outlander and Lancer being built here.

Yep, they might be quite interesting and with 230kw/442Nm/1600kg they might give some people a fright on the 400m.

As boring as they are, they are a damn nice car. I have driven a few stock rentals, and prefer them over VE or BF rentals.... Stock I can drive it and corner as hard as a XR. Easy the throttle on and the torque steer isn't an issue...
Haul down low and scream up top, what more do you want? Quiete, damn quiet...

If the blown variant comes out, I will be buying one... Simple as that.. Not in Auto variant but...

I hope that IF they release it they can somehow do an AWD version, not for me... but for the poor pr!ck that has to drive the thing pumping out that kinda power to the front rollers.
I personally think that it is the major reason that the 380 hasnt done well.

This is what i think the front end should have looked more like...... maybe minus bonnet scoop.

that link isnt working for me.....

but i really hope mitsu go ahead and build it. id hate to see them go under and this could very well prove to be a bit of a hero car and help them out. id seriously consider one if it was AWD.

Both Toyota and Mitsubishi are 99% likely to release a supercharged 6. Both will be able to be tuned aftermarket, which will be interesting. Sales volumes are not that important, it is more to increase their image and get younger people into buying their cars.

MMAL could market the Supercharged 380 as the EVO for Grownups. Power, Package Performance.

Toyota don't have a Blown car in Australia at the moment (except for the Diesels), so it might be a bit harder for them. I guess they will just wield the Toyota Quality brush and they will sell although...

230kw is probably not enough to compete with the XR6T, SS and the other 'big boys'.
