What good car (TV) ads do you remember?
I just got reminded of the old "Football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars " ad. That was a classic. Can't remember any classic Ford ones though. I remember another tongue in cheek ad from the late 70s where the narrator was using all the old used car lingo like "one elderly lady owner" (showed guys hooning at the beach in the car) and "bank manager owned it" (showed car being used in a holdup) don't remember who had that one. Norman Yem (Aussie actor from Division 4 etc) did some ads for Toyota work utes and there was a sendup one he did which did the rounds on the big screens at the pubs years later, it was very funny. |

If I hear the Holdon "Can't get enough of it" jingle one more time I'm going to snap and go down the holdon dealer and kick someone in the balls :jab:

Toyota Hilux's bugger add until the do-gooders pulled it off air. It was filmed in NZ, its probably still on youtube.
Mitsubishi had a good one back when they introduced the Magna VRX, racing a bullet down a path as the bullet goes through laval lamps etc, titled Magna VRX - it'll go like a shot. |

Honda Accord add was the best ive ever seen! The one where the parts of the car do their functions in a line.

But seriously, I do hate the Holden one and am tempted to do what I said. Holden need to start issuing boxes to their staff if they want to keep running their stupid "REAADDDY TO GOOOOOOOO*" *make sure you sound like a retard on valium when singing it!* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ready_to_Go <--- All the info you need on their stupid song.

I rekon the one for the old XY GT coming over the hill and changing into the new GT is good but should of kept the XY in the shot longer seeing it looks alot better than a BA-BF GT does

Any of the adds that have been banned are usually pretty good. The "Bugger" add probably my favorite. I even liked the Hyundai add that was banned recently with the toddler driving who picks up a hitch hiking girl toddler on the way to the beach before cutting up some knarly stuff in the surf on his mini mal.

Also like the Honda Accord Euro ads as well ... well done. Also the UK Honda Civic commercial with the orchestra/sound effects was well done as well.

Imagine if they could rerun the old XY's again, they'd have no trouble selling them, classic lines.

The XC ad where they used the race drivers as witches hats for a slalom.
Or the F Truck ad with a Land Cruiser on the back of it. Even the later Effie ad where one pulls a semi out of a water hole. |

All old farts out there will remember the 1978 XC Falcon ad, with Fred Gibson driving at 92 kph, zig zaging through Murry Carter, Ron Dickson, Dick Johnson, John Goss, Colin Bond and Allan Moffat. A VERY impressive ad for the day and just wouldn't be done today.
The ad came about to retaliate against the "new" R.T.S on HZ Holdens. They used witches hats to weave through, instead of their top line touring car drivers. Could be on You Tube still now. (you just beat me Smally) : |

It might have been relevant back then, but since Holden's flagship, The Commodore began selling back in 1978, the car has been European. Ford HAS been the Australian made car since 1972. I will say that Ford's commercials in the past years have been crappo. Using crappy jingles only turns me off. Imagine what it does to somebody impartial? I liked the slalom commercial. I also liked the XE Falcon commercial. It had semi-computerised graphics that looked cool, and that deep, semi-echo voice certainly makes me wish that XEs were on sale still. I also liked the "bugger" commercial for the Hilux. People who complained about that commercial should stop wasting their time complaining and find something worthwhile to do with their time, such as finding a way to not complain. I am complaining now. I will now use my time better and go away. |

I liked the TAC ad where one car has abs and doesn't hit the back of the truck, and the another car ,going 5 kph faster, locks up all 4 and smacks the back of the truck. I think they were falcons. Good ad for ABS.
Wonder what would happen if they locked the wheels on the car going 5kph slower and used abs on the car going faster.... |

A trauma expert (some doctor) talks about what happens to the body, explaining that as the car its the legs, they are smashed nicely and when the car hits the windscreen then the road, the brain is turned into pulp. That commercial was awesome. Shat myself at first. My undies needed a good scrubbin'. But once I got used to it, I found it quite comical. |

FUny thing is that "football meat pies" etc jingle. was written in USA for chevrolet, baseball, apple pies ... chevrolet, and was also used in south africa and a few otehr counties.
So that ad was as australian as that car company. and the aussies swallowed it whole. |

I just got reminded of the old "Football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars " ad. That was a classic. There was another version of that that went; "Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet, They Go Together in the Good ‘Ole USA…" |

Funny how it is now basically illegal to show a car turning a corner at more than 60km/h but, my kids can watch things like a guy somersaulting over a fence and jumping over a railing down an embankment to get a Maccas breakie or a girl diving out of a window and into a dress to land in the back of a convertible with her mates.
I don't remember seeing any automotive ads which should have been banned, including the toddler picking up his girlfriend in Mum's Santa Fe. |
