Default 'Hardtop Anniversary' in Echuca

The Ford Coupe Club of Australia and the Falcon Cobra Club have launched details of the 'Hardtop Anniversary' in Echuca, to commemorate the historic 1977 Bathurst 1-2 win. Now 30 years since the race, the clubs have decided what better way to celebrate than to hold a weekend long event for all Ford XA XB XC and Landau Coupe owners...........

Here is the event flyer as it currently stands with more details available soon through the respective websites.

Welcome to the forums 73xasuperbird, looks like a good event! With Morley Ford on board it looks like you are set for local contacts, in fact I think one of the cars on the flyer is an Echuca car.

xbgs I'd say the events at Deca will be skidpan & sprint laps of the track http://www.deca.com.au/FacilitiesShepparton.aspx. I was up there a couple of weeks ago & it is a lot of fun! One might say compulsory...

Just thought I'd give this a bump. There is plenty of ground work going on at the moment. This event is open to all XA-XC Coupes and Landau's. They can be concourse original or modified.

For further details the contacts are on the flyer as per post #1.

It'll be huge!!!

As far as accomodation arrangements go, can anyone recommend a caravan park with on site cabins.
Thanks.

Geez that would mean thinking of the names of the parks...

Ok after a bit of research (http://www.echucamoama.com/html/caravan_parks.htm, the Echuca Caravan Park is up the north end of town (~1km from the main street), and the Moama Riverside Caravan Park is just beside the bridge to NSW, so also very close to the centre of both Echuca & Moama. Other parks are further out of town (still pretty close though). I didn't check for onsite vans/cabins etc but I'd be surprised if they didn't have them.

If you are booking sites i would do it very quickly! The echuca park is the biggest next to the river, next to the Holden museum, where you can go and see where they went wrong!

What's the significance of Echuca? I would think Bathurst would be the obvious place to have it.

Dont know why they picked Echuca but would have been dissapointed in Bathurst! Middle of no where. The Coupe club is based in Melbourne so at least Echuca will allow country folk to go as well? Its a nice place anyway

It's a fair question. Holding such an event in Bathurst would have been very difficult to organize. Because the track is public road the rigmorol and costs involved with using the track for a day would have been horrendous. Even then it would have ended up just being a pale imitation of the Hardtop Revenge held there last year. Take the track out of the equation and it's just another town. As auslandau says, the coupe club is based in Melbourne so for us Bathurst is just too far away.

Echuca was selected because of its location, plentiful accomodation plus attractions for the (non car oriented) partners and kids who may want to get away from the cars. Its not too big a stretch for people in Vic, NSW or SA to attend. Echuca is well used to car events and is popular with various car clubs. We have excellent local help involved who know what is required and how to go about it. Above all, Echuca is a fantastic place!!

I can answer general questions about it but the main contacts are Stuart or Tiny as per the flyer in post #1. They are the club presidents of the Ford Coupe Club and the Falcon Cobra Club respectively.

Cheers.
