Default Is this a true Fact

While at a function I got talking to a guy that is a Chrysler Valiant fan. In general car disscussion he mentioned that the Valiant 4 door 265cu VH Pacer held the title as the fastest 4 door N/A 6 cyl Australian production car from 1972-1988. I mentioned the VL but he said only the turbo version was quicker.
I thought the Cortina or Torana with a 6cyl might have been quicker but he informed me that the Pacer was quicker? It appears a lot of years for holding that title without some Aussie production car out performing the old Val.

Only the Charger RT versions were fast, the normal 265 versions were pretty tame without the RT modifications. But then again it doesn't exactly have much competetion because no one else made go faster versions of four door 6 cylinders during that period. The only comparable car I can think of would be the XC 250 2V which was known to match the 302's but I have no idea how they would compare.

It was the VH R/t E49 charger and it was 0.3 seconds quicker over the quater mile than the phase III GTHO, the car thet knocked it off was a porsche, that was the title for the fastest accelerating non turbo production car world wide

Read the first post again. It says FASTEST 4 DOOR NA 6 CYLINDER. Nowhere does it meantion V8's or 2 doors like the Charger.

The record of fastest 4 door sedan relates to top speed, and the Phase 3 was the fastest in the world at the time. I think it could top out at around 224 kmh or something close to that. Nothing special today but with the aero of a brick and only 4 speeds that was pretty special for its day.

That sounds right for the Pacer, although the E31 VG with the 2 barrel was healthy.(trivia- the VH Valiant had the highest all Australian content of any car in its day of 93%. trivial c**p i know!)

In 1971, Chrysler Australia produced the first 'All Australian' Valiant with the VH series. Included in the range was the VH Valiant Pacer, which came equipped with a high performance 'hemi 265' engine. At release, it set the record for being the fastest mass-produced four-door sedan with a six-cylinder engine manufactured in Australia, until the title was relinquished to the Ford Falcon XR6 some 17 years later.

The Pacer's 265 had 218 bhp @ 4,800 rpm and 273 lb-ft @ 3,000 rpm in standard form. This propelled it down the quarter mile in 15.9 seconds, from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.

Off the topic again but the E49 could run constent 14.1 to 14.4 on street tyres

Change to race tyres then the times go under 14.0

So is that true that it took until the Xr6 Falcon to take the title of the the fastest I gather he was talking about 400m times 4 door N/A 6cyl aussie car of the VH Pacer.Well I have just found out a bit more motoring trivia. Thanks guys as I was certain the 6cyl Cortinas were quicker.

Slightly off topic but the car that holds the record as the fastest 4 door production car in the world is the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton developed in the late eighties- 6 cyl but with twin Garrett t25 turboes.
A GM but one that still leaves all the V8 HSV's with a bitter taste in their mouths!
The Typhoon is now getting VERY close to the torque output of this machine.

Hell I was doing those speeds last weekend in my XR8. Doesn't seem fast, but on the other hand getting my 69 XT over 190KPH is kind of scary. It floats around, vibrates like a *****, and I'm waiting for the wiper arms to rip off.

My brother's mates sister's boyfreind's dog's original owner heard, from his neighbour's auntie's nephew's dad, once worked for a bloke who's stepson's uncle's wife once asked the same question to some westie with a hotted up torana.
Well the westie said his mum's boss's daughter's baby sitter once knew someone who read an article in a magazine that confirmed everything that you had heard !

I hope this has been benificial to your query ! :voldar02:

Despite the external dimensions of VH-CM Valiants (especially the sedans), most of that "bulk" was just the curved panels and whatnot. I don't think that most of them were actually all that heavy compared with their contemporaries (until they started competing with VB/XDs)? So with a Pacer 265 hemi, this could possibly be true?

Wow! Thats beautiful! However, it isnt the fastest 4 door production sedan which the HO and Lotus were/are.
Apparently, you can order said car but it isn't officially a production car.....splitting hairs, I know and it ceryainly doesnt detract from a wonderful machine.

That's just "World's Fastest Sedan," not production anything. Brabus is a tuner...

The fastest production sedan in the world, also a Mercedes, is this...

Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG. 6.0litre V12, twin turbo, 450kW @ 4800-5100rpm, 1000Nm @ 2000-4000rpm. Does 0-100km/h in 4.2 sec, the 1/4 in 11.35, limited to 250, but de-restricted can do 340km/h. $435,900 in Australia.

um, im pretty sure the article says, quote "362.4 km/h: The BRABUS ROCKET, built in small-series production based on the Mercedes CLS series, is the world's fastest sedan. During test runs on the high-speed track in the southern Italian town of Nardo the high-performance automobile improved upon the previous record of 350.2 km/h, held also by BRABUS with the E V12 Biturbo." unquote

small production, but still production. BRABUS is just like CSV with commonbores. its a serious piece of machinary nevertheless...
