Smile AWD Mustang mentioned on BumperTBumper program

I was recently watching the BumperTBumper program where they were testing the new mustang in Germany. The Journalist mentioned that Ford is designing a brand new 2018 All Wheel Drive Mustang.

Has anyone else heard anything about this new model 2018 mustang?
It sure would be a welcome addition to Ford's future performance car lineup!

I don't think that's true.

Never heard of that show, sounds like they are just trying to get some attention.

Plenty of other cars in the line up they could do that too, and already do. GT and Mustang are inherently RWD.

Wasn't one of the camo'd test cars photographed with possible awd hardware?

Edit, I read the link above...

Gt was inherently v8 until they decided to drop a v6 in there.

Not certain about an AWD Mustang, however Detroit is just days away and there be Mustang facelift revealed there. 10 speed auto and new V8 are on the cards. Possible the GT500 too.

I reckon an awd mustang is inevitable, not sure about an awd v6tt one but if they're doing awd they might as well go all the way.

Time will tell I guess.

Apparently the GT350 has splined front hubs, not found on the rest of the range...

Perhaps AWD might be a feature in a future model in sone form.

Why would they bother adding weight and understeer? Who else makes an AWD V8 that they compete with?

I agree they need to start pushing the boundaries with something else other than power though, but add AWD seems to be counter intuitive. Perhaps a different car off the same platform?

Lincoln?

AWD would have more place in the upper market segment...

Chrysler have AWD on the Charger and 300C, wouldn't be hard to put it on Challenger if need be. If they're looking at something that has usable performance, it makes complete sense to me. If they can get a torque vectored rear in the RS, why not a torque vectored front end for Mustang.

The AWD system in the RS has a rear wheel bias. I think 70% towards the rear.
Still, will there be a performance increase when adding more weight?
I guess time will tell......

Think you will find both are now only available with the 3.6L V6, they dropped the AWD/Hemi 5.7L V8 option....

I don't get why ford would use splined hubs if they wernt planning awd,,but then I also don't get why they would use them on a rwd model before they've even admitted an awd model is being planned.

Default Re: AWD Mustang mentioned on BumperTBumper program

The last brute GT500 is likely behind us..... blowers are done now on so many levels and so I think turbo is the next step for a "straight line" mustang

The hot tip is either a small bore V8 (like 4.8L) based on Coyote which if the early rumours are true will cop some small side mounted turbos on cast manifolds.

But while I hope that happens, me personally I think there is a very good chance the next GT500/replacement will be Ecoboost V6 powered as it follows Fords history of trickling down tech.

AWD is out of left field but then again the Stang cant have 11-ty bazillion computers on it like the GT has so AWD might be the way to make it drive safe and go fast instead

It will be interesting whatever happens

Daniel

Reports out today of a hybrid mustang in the near future...

Now...what if it a hybrid awd system used in a growing number of sports cars?

I hope they Ecoboost the Coyote, it was designed for it at the outset.

Hybrid added for GT350 and up. It would be expensive though.

I can dream...

TT AWD V6 mustang would be killer...if the AWD was the hybrid system. Still offer the RWD V8 though.
