Coming home today along Victoria rd West Ryde as I came over a crest looking straight into the Sun there was Officer plod parked in the start of an right hand turn S lane WTF? At least it was an FGX.
Traffic was slow enough to have a peek and he was simply sitting there looking ahead. As far as I could see there was no accident debris or breakdowns. It could have been a Sun glare thing but without his lights on he was lost in the glare himself and I think a dangerous position.

Doesn't look dangerous to me,he is within the marked lines where everyday drivers(not coppers) should not be anyway, should have pulled up and had a go at him if you thought he was doing the wrong thing.

At a guess i would say he had within the last hour written a ticket for someone speeding then whilst pulling up to the lights it occured to him that he had just given a ticket to a dead person thing was the person wasnt dead which in turn left him stunned....hence he sat there dazed in a state of dis-belief.

One of the better places. I got side swiped in the left lane going city bound just after where kissing point road enters 2 years ago, when old mate in a tray back decided to change lanes without indicating or even looking... Atleast it was the work car. Victoria road is a jungle at times, I've driven it every day for 6 years, but it beats the hell out of the m4 or the dreaded parramatta road

He's a stationary road hazard where he is. And if the spot is a known location for rear enders, he's asking for trouble.

he is certainly not in the smartest spot.... that is for sure... however he is is a spot where no cars should be so you cant really say he is a road hazzard... and if someone was to hit him then they would certainly be the ones at fault not him... it would be no different to being in a breakdown lane....

Old mate apparently didn't see the fridge white van beside him when he made the frantic move... insurance told the real story and my company won the case, honesty is the best policy.. I failed to mention he was ****ed as a fart, I left him with a little dignity

Could be any number of reasons, waiting for an Ambulance to do an escort, waiting for a pursuit coming his way to throw out a stinger, someone racing to a hospital and he's going to pick them up, or he's just finished booking someone and writing up his notes.
I doubt he just thought, "Gee, I think I'll just pull up here and park".

Being in the right is fine but it is clearly a stupid place to park in this circumstance. Geoff

All of those things could be better served placing his car in a location not creating a further hazard to members of the public. Generally, I have found NSW police pretty professional and fair (unlike another two States) but I think this was a poor choice to pull up.

I dont see the issue, you are only meant to drive in that position if traffic is banked up.
With the abilities of our road users, he's not safe anywhere. Infact he's probably safer there than on the footpath |

It’s no different to sitting on a concrete medium strip in my books.
If you run into the back of a car there then you’re not driving in the traffic lane. If the sun is so bad and you can’t see him then you should slow right down as you also won’t be able to see a car in the traffic lane ahead of you. |

Seems perfectly safe to me, can't really see the problem. There could be a million reasons he is stopped there, looks like he is a traffic cop by the markings on the car, so he could be monitoring the intersection for traffic flow or other reported problems.
Unlikely he has stopped there for his meal break or to have a smoke or because he is bored and has nothing better to do.

I am not cop bashing. I strongly believe in high vis policing as opposed to subcontracting to Macquarie Bank but that's a different story. They are often just a hundred metres or so from this point in a side street with a westward pointing laser. I agree with many stating that we cannot drive over these striped line areas, though we all see it especially in heavy traffic. However, they are also held to higher standards than us hence they can use their phones while driving. So, he should also have been aware that the Sun glare did bring extra risk. And lastly its not always black and white when someone runs into another or something immoveable. My workplace often provide evidence to the police about the angle and position of the Sun in relation to accidents. Geoff

Dashcams are awesome. Mine has saved me an insurance excess in a sticky situation that would of been hard to decide who was at fault without any proof. Paid for itself many times over. I bet you have never criticized any driver. |

The squeeler is obviously retarded and pulling over to clear the excess snot from his nose, he obviously thinks its the coolest sniper spot ever to eat his mc Donald's, meanwhile he could not have picked a more dangerous spot ever for other motorist, both coming and going.
What's the moral of this story? revenue over safety? |

He's obviously been driving Commodores for too long and forgotten how to reverse park.
I can see a good spot on the left. :P
