Ford I may be at heart but that surprised me I thought the Redline would have it going by the claimed times for the LS3 powered SS

I just don't get these comparisons, why do the continue to compare a 2 door sport car v family sedan.
Why are these the same class of vehicle. |

Yeah not a bad performance from the garden variety 5.0 GT version. Much impressed.

Looks like Wheels is just killing time until they get their hands on a couple of sprints.

So let me get this straight, Wheels wont test the XR8 Sprint against the SS-V but they will test it against the Mustang?
I want to see the XR8 Sprint against the SS-V which is its true competitor, not the HSV |

Mustang would be 2-3 tenths quicker also if we had the US spec exhaust.

Wow- the Mustang seemed to beat the SS-V by a much greater margin than the comparison I have seen between the FGX-XR8 (auto) and the SS-V (manual).
On the basis of that you would think the Mustang would flog the FGX XR8, is it "doctored" video jiggery pockery.....

Why not? Who gives a rats about different 'classes'... Fact is, if your looking for a v8 unless your a one eyed brand snob then you would look at both.

If you ask me I recon the fellow driving the Holden was being paid by Ford, that’s the only logical conclusion I can come up with.

Why do they continue to use a literally meaningless measurement like drag racing to say how good a road car is? Let's be honest...99% of SS-V Redlines and Mustangs will ever go within a hundred clicks of a dragstrip. Who cares?
I'm reminded of a quote from years back about how American car magazines seemed overly concerned with who could get the highest G ratings on a circular track until it let go, as if that was a vital measurement of how "good" a car is. They said "You could get the same G readings using a Morris Minor with welded up suspension and fat tyres...but you wouldn't want to drive it around the streets every day..." |

I don't need back seats, I'll take the Mustang!
I'd actually like to see the Mustang up against an XR8 Sprint. Who cares about the commodore? |

You read the comparison in the magazine for that sort of thing. They may even comment on the seats and driving position.

I also don't get the point of the direct comparison....
However I think the Australian motoring journalists should as a tribute to Holden/Ford do a 1000m drag race similar to the one below... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjLJ6i8iYJc Lineup could be something like this: - Holden Comodore SV6 - Holden Commodore SS - Holden Commodore SSVR - HSV Clubsport LSA - HSV GTS LSA - Ford Falcon XR8 Sprint - Ford Falcon XR6T Sprint - Ford Mustang GT - Ford Falcon XR8 - Ford Falcon XR6T - Ford Falcon XR6 Would be cool to the the GTS and Sprints go head to head over 1000m

I thought it rather obvious no Holden is going to keep up with any Sprint and frankly only HSV's best is going to be some form of competition....even Ford's engineers said HSV was the benchmark for Sprints.
