Default Is Sound or Speed more important in your Ford?

As per title, is sound or speed more important to you when buying a new or used car, and where your $$ go when modifying?

I find it interesting. To me I find the sound of a car gives me more enjoyment than speed, especially for daily drivers. I love performance cars, but for me the sound of a car (especially V8 or similar) is a real part of the driving experience.

Hence I could easily live with a slower car that sounded loud/great. But a faster and quiet/poor sounding car generally bores me quickly.

A few people I know are exactly the opposite though, keeping their car very quiet but spend big $$ to make it go faster, and faster again. It always makes me scratch my head, but of course each to their own!

So what do you place higher priority on?

Quiet fast car always mate ;) Just remember just because it came from the factory quiet doesn't mean you have to keep it quiet!! A lot cheaper getting some sound out of an engine than making it go faster!

Here I thought you were talking about inside sound(sound system) originally hahaha.

I couldnt agree more with what you said MercuryT, Would far rather have a better sounding car rather than a very quick but quiet car. If you can hear it before you see it, its a good sign haha

Sound ftw. Nobody ever got their car impounded for too loud.. hope the fuzz dont get any ideas. Had all mufflers cut out of the boss335 when I first got it, just for fun. The sound was out of this world, endless compliments and thumbs up just idling around town. Bark the exhaust in an underground carpark and watch all the alarms go off and thunder reverberate through the entire building. Harmless fun, but the novelty grew off due to the damned exhaust drone and no backpressure seemed to sap away the low down torque (is there a way to fix that?) and I reinstalled just the center muffler

At the end of the day for me its about performance, all show and no go is not for me. And yes you can have both with a s/c V8.

Why not both? Decent exhaust on a 6 turbo or 8 makes a nice sounding fast car

I am talking about what people would prefer between the two!

Of course it would be better to have both (in my opinion), but many performance cars don't have both, nor do their owners want them to have both...

Haha. Nah, not inside sound system!

Of course cars can be changed, what I mean is what is more important in your purchasing/modding opinion of the two.

In other words, of the two what would people rather live without - for me I could live without speed far more than sound.

Sound for sure, you can enjoy that longer just by holding a lower gear or down shifting.

I should also say that my old man bought a 100K Audi a couple of years back. His retirement present (and very well earned I might add)

The first thing he said that made him love the car so much was "how quiet it is inside and out". I nearly fell over!?! And yep, for me it's a very boring drive albeit every electric possible etc.

I (sincerely) would rather drive an old clapped out Mustang with straight pipes to be honest!

I do have both with my 6T.

BUT I've spent my $$ on suspension and sound. Haven't touched the engine at all, fast enough for me stock.

Others have really quiet Ts with much higher rwkw....hence my question!

Speed > Sound.

I like my cars to be subtle and refined.

That's how I like my cars. The ultimate for me would be to have a big stonking V12 under the bonnet, but be so quiet, luxurious and refined inside that I lose track of how fast I'm going.

Well, it's sound for me. Especially driving a 5.0 EF, you ain't gonna get anywhere too quickly, so might as well enjoy that beautiful note. Nothing beats that rumble when you turn the key every morning.

Besides, a tough note keeps others guessing, it could be a quick car. Or not!

I'm shopping for a G6E turbo and am sure I'll miss the beautiful sound of the old slow Ghia.

Neither really appeal to me but give me a stock looking car that handles like it is on rails and I'm in heaven. I would rather blow someone away with a car that brakes and corners than is quick in a straight line. FWIW

Not worried about speed on the street at all, but the good trade off is that any mod i do to enhance my daily's sound will make it perform better too.

Fords with cams, blowers, turbo's or decent exhaust's even, street or track dont matter, they all sound wicked anywhere!

cheers, Maka

Yeah that's where I disagree.

Sure the ricer brigade in their civics, corollas etc with huge exhausts is a very bad look, but I don't think a FPV/HSV (or exotics like Lambos etc) that are really loud with awesome notes look like a tool at all.

Heard a Lambo Gallardo in Melb recently (owner told me it had a Tubi(?) exhaust) - so loud it nearly split my ear drums but bloody amazing. Never heard anything like it. I don't care how fast my car goes if I had that note!...haha

So for mine in fact it's the opposite. It is what makes the car so enjoyable, and those in their really fast but really quiet cars all seems pointless and boring in comparison.

Of course each to their own hence why asked the question!

What do you think of a stock G6ET? It's really fast but quiet, and far from boring or pointless.

Ideally you want a good looking car, that sounds great and performs better then factory.

Quality loud is good, noise just for the sake of noise is a real turn off.

Acceleration plays a big part, its all about your 0 - 60 kmh and 0 - 100 kmh.
It seems every second car is capable of a 14 sec 400m pass these days and many more can better this. Id like to tick all three boxes looks, sound and performance.
