do old asian Ute's have clear coat?

Mates got a white Mazda Bravo 95 model he's preparing for sale. Would poliShing it strip the paint or do they have clearcoat?

Depends what colour it is, but all metallics have clear coats.
If its white then it wont.

polishing shouldnt affect the paint on anything in any serious way as it adds a layer on top rather than cleaning and cutting it which will thin it a bit.

If the paint is oxidised and chalky, polishing it will prove difficult. Would need buffing.

Sorry JP but polishing the paint will take off some of the paint. Wax is what adds a layer of protection. Just didn't want the OP'r to get confused.

If the Paint is looking tired there are many methods to get it shining again. If you are going to try and polish it you will need to know how much paint it left on it by using a paint depth gauge or you can hope for the best and give it a light polish. Something like the 'Autoglym' super resin polish or the 'Meguires' ultimate polish they are more a finishing polish and not very aggressive it will give it a shine with out cutting to deep and then a wax to add a layer of protection, again many brand and quality for this application something simple like a 'Bowdens Own' would work fine.

Surely the amount it removes is miniscule when done by hand and only marginally more when using a machine???? how many microns are lost? and shouldn’t hurt the paint in any serious way...assuming there is paint there to start with. Surely any paint that is so thin polish would damage it would be already susceptible to corrosion anyway.

Yep polish is not as abrasive as a cut but will still remove paint. It will be minuscule but I was just clarifying that both a Cutting compound and polishing compound will remove paint and not add a layer as you has suggested.

Assuming there is paint there to start with, it can damage very quickly if a compound is too aggressive hence the suggestion of a Jeweling (finishing) style of polish.

If polishing you will need to clay bar the paint surface first to remove any contaminants such as tree sap and bit of industrial fall out. ( you can use something like Iron-X if you are really keen) It will help you from spreading contaminants and make polishing harder as you rubbing in these contaminants.

Some of those car wash places use a dirt cutting spray then they pressure wash it off.
I had a white VY and I could never get the shine back after that happened to me.
Tried Clay bars and a good carnauba wax, nothing worked for me.

It was like it lost or never had a clear coat

Just give it a good wash then go over it with a clay bar and then use a mild cutting polish and wax. If the paint is worn through then it was shot before the polishing. Just do it by hand so you dont go through the white. Will look tidy enough to sell then.
