Does anybody know the length of time the falcon and Long wheel base cars used the 2 speed Auto, 3 Speed auto, 4 Speed Auto, 5 Speed Auto and the 6 speed. Which one was in production for the longest time?

Well the BTR 4 Speed was 1990-2010 (or there abouts).
The 3 Speed though was actually a couple of different boxes. FMX or C4(?) mainly.

Read and be amazed at how many different cars the BW35 has been in...chances are everyone on this forum, and probably in general motoring life, has driven at least one car fitted with a BW35...

XK-XP For the 2pd FordOMatic
XP-EA SI For the BW35 although circa XF it was renamed BW40, may have had a reasonable update at this stage too. EA SII- FG For the BTR 85LE/91LE/95LE, not sure if it had any further names/revisions though? 5 and ZF 6 speed autos iirc came out with the BF, someone more knowledgeable than me can fill this bit out BW35/40 was used on 6 potters (OP was talking Falcons), 4spd autos used on both 6 and V8's. 5spd was 6 potter only I believe. ZF 6 speeder, 6 and V8. C4 was typically used on the 302's and FMX's used on 351's, although I forget all the details I believe the C4 was also used on some 250 6 potters? 6 speed ZF transmission debuted with the BF.
5 speed 5R55 from Bordeaux Transaxle debuted with the FG. This transmission is/was a global transmission also fitted to Ranger, Explorer and Mustang.

BTR stopped making the 4 speeds when the BAs came out...
It was some other mob...IOS...ION? Something like that.

Its amazing how far the automatic gearbox has come over the decades and how much more efficient they've become. Many Falcon's are now more efficient with the six speed auto than their manual counterparts and that was only a development in very recent years.

JPG you are not quite right from memory and Im 65 now and have had many many Falcons here we go XK to XL had the two speed which was air cooled as against using the coolant lines in the radiator after the XL they used water cooled transmissions XK had the 144ci six the XL had a choice 144ci or Pursuit 170 then the XMs and XPs had a choice of 170ci Pursuit six or 200ci Super Pursuit six XM and XP had a 3 speed Fordomatic "3S' that 3S went into the XRs also called the fordomatic the V8s had the Cruise o matic 3S not sure about XTs and XWs but XYs had the BW35 then on through to the early EAs so that makes them being used for almost 20 years so that would make the BW35 one of the longest running boxes in the Falcon just my observations over the years and all you youngens thought the Pursuit name was new thanks John Last edited by last fairlane; 14-12-2011 at 08:53 PM. Hi. The Borg Warner 35 used in some falcons was similar to the one used in MK3 zephyrs and was known as a dual gate with gear positions of park, reverse, neutral, drive and low. From take off if you put it in low it would stay in 1st gear but if you were in drive and pulled it into low it would change down to 2nd. Cheers MD

I have a '64 Compact Fairlane and it has a 3 speed cruise o matic, the '62 & 63 versions and some '64s (I've been told) had the 2 speed auto. My dad had an XR Fairmont with a 289 and a cruise o matic.
If I remember right, the 2 speed auto was always called the "Fordomatic" in both 6 and 8 cylinder configerations. My Fairlane has the gear selector shaft on the passenger side, which is common to all Ford USA Autos, the Borg Warner Trannies had it on the driver's side. Some XA & XB 6 cylinder cars had C4's so the easy way to tell was which side was the transmission selector.
