Default Autobarn Show and Shine / Dyno day March 14th

The Mid North Coast Ford Owners Club in conjunction with East Coast Holdens, and the Hastings Old Holdens Clubs, will be hosting the first Autobarn car show on March 14th in the Autobarn car park.

The 3 clubs have formed a committee with members from each club, and we have been organizing this event now for over 8 weeks. Shannons have jumped in as sponsors of the event, the Pioneer display vehicle will be there, Fat Pizza will be there, DJR performance will be operating the dyno, we have made security provisions with the dyno by fencing being erected around 3/4 of the dyno with a mesh over it for the saftey of the public. There will be a stereo sound off competition, and various catagories for the show and shine being judged by Shannons. There are 38 trophies up for grabs fom the 3 events. The Mid North Coast Ford Owners Club and the Hastings Old Holdens will be joining their club trailors together and all working under 1 large marquee for the sale of food and drink, we will have pie warmers there, and the coke van will be parked next to the food. This event will be advertised on TV in the next week or 2 and placed in the newspapers and radio. This will be the first major combined clubs car show ever held in Port Macquarie. At the moment we have been given 150 car park spaces, which means we can only get in 80 vehicles, all entry forms are at Autobarn Port Macquarie only, entry for the show is $15 per vehicle, which gives you free entry into the sound off competition. Entry for the dyno is $50 for 3 runs, and you can enter on the day. Once we get 80 pre entrys we will not allow any other vehicles in, we will have the car park sealed and the only way in is through a spot secured by a club member that will only let pre entered vehicles in. I entered the coupe today and we are already up to 11 pre entrys, and i was the very first club vehicle from any club that entered, so we will reach the 80 vehicles before March 14th. It is first in first served. We have another meeting on the 11th of Feb, hopefully more info to be added then. This is the flyer that just got released.

We had another meeting last night, everything has been covered and double checked. The Pioneer sound truck cannot make it, but FAT PIZZA has been locked in. Everything from security to food and drink has been sorted. Entry's are now half full and we have not yet started to advertise the event, hot rods and drag cars and various other vehicles have already pre entered. Trophies have been sorted ($500 worth), Flyers are being put up now in the Coffs Harbour - Taree areas, and we are trying to contact out of Port car clubs. All is on track and looking good for a great show.

Yep, good point. I would say it will be brought up in our meeting thursday week, but no matter where you put the dyno you will have a mass of people around it, and the space that we had available to us was limited. Tuff problem to solve, but we can work on that one. Thanks for the point and glad you enjoyed the day.

A few I spoke to all said a great show, shame I worked so missed out as usual. How was your dyno run Gordon? My son watched your run ( assuming it was you as he's not all that great with knowing cars ) he said it was awesome on the dyno. He said a big orange and black GT, I said coupe, he said a what? LOL, I said two door, he said oh yeah one of them. hahaha. I think he needs more edumikation.
Another young bloke I spoke to this morning said he thought there was a good load of trophys, some for the big boys and some for the amatuers.

How about a nightime one next time. All those other businesses would be closed so no conflict with them needing parking, could close off the whole thing then.Theres reasonable lighting in the carpark and if Autobarn wanted to stay open then they could as well as the coffee shop. I can't imagine anyone else would want to.

It was an awesome day thanks to some energetic organisation and lots of workers. Dave and Walter from DJR did an outstanding job considering the early dramas with the Dyno, they worked their butts off and the crowd enjoyed the cars on the runs.
Well done the committee on a fantastic effort and a great day. Lets definitely do it again!! :

I know the dyno Was playing up early on in the day but some of the figures seem to be a bit out there and not to be mean or single a car out but a na swift gti with nearly 200hp at the wheels these things made about 100hp at the flywheel new 200hp atw is turbo territory for these little beasts. Others don't seem to out there given previous results at other dyno comps eg dave page with 508 as at the mid coast auto show it got 511 if i remember right. Maybe the dyno came good through the day? Anyone got any thoughts?

Over all though was a good day and congrats on putting on a great show look forward to more in the future.

Yep the dyno was playing up due to water on the way up, the swift was not a stock engine and everything else was very close to the money. If you go to the DJR facebook site, they found the problem this morning with a blown resistor from the water. Once they got a consistant reading from the 2 DJR cars,(as they know what their cars run on the dyno all the time) it was exactly 100 KW down exactly from both DJR cars. So all figures thrown out on Sunday we added 100 KW. With the blown resistor happening when it was assembled, the dyno was consistant throughout the day and none of the owners complained about the figures. Good example was the FG GT, totaly stock 315 KW engine, it made 267.3 RWKW....which is pretty close to the money. There were around 5 DJR built engines that went on the dyno during the day and all of them came very close to what they put out in the shop.

As i said some cars seem close to the mark of what they should have but unless that swift had an entirly different engine in it that figure is wrong here in a link for you
http://www.redlinegti.com/dyno/
If you look at the 5th one down it is the fastest na swift in oz on street tyres making 89 kw atw and the highest listed (with a gti engine) which has loads of work done makes 128 hp, so maybe a record was set? I'll leave it up to you to decide

But adding 100kw tells the story, i guess I just wouldn't be quoting any of these figures is all I am trying to get at.

It sounds like guessing at it's best. If u just put 100 on it, you havnt got an idea on how the car ran and all those involved in the competition should get there money back.

Why wasn't the people told about it before it started competition?
And after the fault was made why did u keep charging them?

This dyno is all some people could afford. People going home would be either happy or sad about there result, but both ways they have not accurate result for on the day. Bearing in mind the dyno is ONLY a tuning tool. I would like to know the result of the questions raised by the member published.

Cheers

Brian

And after the fault was made why did u keep charging them?

This dyno is all some people could afford. People going home would be either happy or sad about there result, but both ways they have not accurate result for on the day. Bearing in mind the dyno is ONLY a tuning tool. I would like to know the result of the questions raised by the member published.

Cheers

The fault was told to EVERYBODY BEFORE we opened the competition.
Not one owner of any vehicle made a complaint about their readings.
And all the crowd afterward gave the crew from DJR a huge cheer and asked them to come back next year. The day was a success.....everybody was happy....there are several comments on the DJR and AUTOBARN facebook sites about what a great show and job well done.
Not one owner raised any questions on any readings on the dyno.
What is the problem ??? Or you have been miss informed !
And wouldnt this be a matter of making a phone call and finding out the facts before making comments like this in a forum?

The opinion gordon wasnt about the show. it was about the facts. You didnt disclose the fact it wasnt running right. You altered the results. If you did that at any comp you would be laughed at e.g summernats, national dyno comp etc. This is a public forum Gordon at because we have no other forum to ask questions we use this. But it isnt about how good the event is but how acurate ( spelling) it is. I hope this doesnt lead down the track that the dyno was fudged to make numbers?

I will agree with you thunderoo, car owners were told of the dyno fault. Out of interest would this fault have taken 100kw off every car or is it something that varied as a % based on the cars output? I doubt even the operators can be sure this is why when questioned they offered owners a free re run at their workshop (So yes the results were questioned on the day).

Don't take this as an attack on yourself, the show or your club as I outlined in my first post I found some results a little hard to believe. It was a great show overall and I hope they continue into the future as there is not much car related stuff that happens on the mid north coast.
