2008 NSW Road toll lowest since 1944

Condolences to those who have lost loved ones on the road.

Possibly less crashes due to less drivers on the road when petrol was around 140-150 mark? Better cars on the road perhaps?

I hope to see a breakdown of those stats as well as national stats.

Simply has to be better cars.............crumple zones, air bags, mandatory seat belts etc.

Driving standards seem to be a disgrace with more clueless twits littering our roads everyday, so Im not thinking it has anything to do with anything except car design.

This would be one big factor, in vic they had 304 and that is 20 odd lower then last year. But we already have 6 dead in 5 days (3 up from last year). Funny how that happens when petrol is the cheapest its been in 4 years.

No it is because of the government speed cameras, hoon laws and ACA/TT exposes.

More speed cameras, hoon laws and media beatups mean less deaths (obviously).

There is currently a heavily funded task force investigating how many cameras, hoon laws and extended media beatups are needed to make the road toll negative.

The current methodology of making the cheapest crappest roads possible to deter people actually driving has drawn huge support as it frees up money to pay for more speed cameras and speed limit signs. Remember the more speed limit changes per kilometre, the more likely the driver will miss one and therefore help fund more cameras.

Freeview, the new extended FTA broadcasting system have announced an extra "hoon channel" to combat the road toll with 24/7 repeats of tracey and anna crying and a doof doof in a macca's car park declaring jihad, while QLD is fitting speed cameras to the rail system to stop train crashes and CASA are now confiscating heavy jets that leave black marks on runways (they tried speed cameras but the winning contractor to supply the skyhooks to attach the cameras has done a runner with the funds).
