Im restoring a 1971 XY and want to install a car alarm.
Problem is Im not sure which brand to go with. There are not a lot of sites out there that are unbiased. Whats your opinion? Cobra, Mongoose, Black Widow or another brand? Regards, Ozzman. :togo: |

g`day ozzman
i used to install car alarms for 9 years until i sold my business 2 years ago. i think that the "cobra" alarms are ok quality but have less agents than a lot of others meaning if you have a problem it might be harder to get it fixed. ( italian company i think from memory ) http://www.cobracaralarms.com.au/Home/home/Home-Page "mongoose" make some very good alarms and have good back up.(australian company ) http://www.mongoose.com.au/ "black widow" never imprested me much exept for the fact that they provided me with plenty of customers who wanted their black widow alarms replaced with something else. removed more black widow alarms from cars than any other brand. (amarican company ) "vision" are a good brand and have suppled a lot of factory fitted alarms and immobilisers (autralian company ) http://www.vision-group.com.au/vsp/index.htm "auto watch" are another very good brand with some exellent products ( south african company ) http://www.pfk.co.za/CompanyProfile13.aspx "dynamco" - "cyclops" quite good with lots of outlets . (australian company ) http://www.dynamco.com.au/ personally i would use "mongoose" "auto watch" "vision" or "dynamco" probably in that order but it depends on just what you need in an alarm . check the options and features available on different models and brands. DONT buy a cheap lower end of range alarm , you will regret it.

Ive attached a couple of pics of the body so far. Not too far to go til I get it home. Ps. The colour is Toxic. Its a BA colour. |

Speak to Stav from Stingray Car Security (a sponsor on here). Very good to deal with and knows his stuff.

I Bought a mongoose, after doing alot of homework.
Pretty good price too. I think m80 Has ability to be upgraded for extras like c/locking, sensors for if front end is jacked up etc. I worked for a company that installed Black widows. They were a big name in the early 90's. I still choose something different though. I few members have put up some links to have a look at. One recommendation though, check out the cost of replacement remotes if required.... Cheers
