No covid, thats good. But no 7/11's? Sevo bought out mobil servos which was a shock back then as they were independantly owned. I have 2 sevos within walking distance from my house. Well, within maybe 3kms. I could probably walk that, but im an adult and have a car. Does anyone remember when you got a ninja star lolly when you bought a large slurpee back in the early 90's?

I'm probably alone on this but I don't get the appeal for krispy kreme or frosted donuts in general.
Donuts are the things that you eat still hot immediately after they've plopped out of the deep fryer donut machine and been rolled in cinnamon sugar!

i see them as two different products.

Donut refers to the general shape.

cinnamon donuts are different to iced donuts. both have their place.

some might say this doesn't belong but i've been known to buy just cheap cinnamon donuts from the supermarket, put a couple in a bowl, heat them up in the microwave and then scoop a few spoonfuls of ice cream on top...

yes, i cycle because i'm too weak mentally to change my diet

Filled donuts are still donuts. Whether you know them as jam donuts, ponchikiy, paczki, sufganiyot…

Younger brother pointed out today that blueberries are coming down again, good excuse to make a filling for something yummy.

And when you walk into a 7/11 for a crispy cream you don't smell ****.

But if you're up early enough and enter a bakery, the smell should be bottled.

There's a reason why that spice has been used in cologne/perfume for decades.

I've never parted with my own money for a krispe kreme and never will. they are tiny and the taste doesn't justify the cost.

personally i think its just another american disgusting overhyped and marketed product that australia somehow can't help copy. much like starbucks....

americans have no taste. why do we insist on copying them

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are okay but nothing to rave about; they’re just a bit too sweet. My favourite would be the standard iced doughnuts made in the local bakery, but the ones they sell in 6-packs in Coles are also okay. Hot cinnamon runs a close second on my list. I recommend the Berry Doughnut Van for excellent hot cinnamon doughnuts. I also used to like pineapple doughnuts but I haven’t seen them in the shop for years.

Now that’s a blast from the past I’d completely forgotten about!
It’d have to be 30 years since I last had a pineapple doughnut!
Primary school tuckshop used to have em for around 3d

Geeze, that took me straight back to being a 1st year apprentice, walking up the ramp out of Wynyard station to pass the freshly made ones coming along the big donut machine in the window display.

Havent had a chocy donut since I was in primary school, but will grab hot donuts for a treat.
Sweet things are not for me, will stick to the beef pies and flaky pastry pasties.

I was absolutely transfixed by the automated production, the smell that came along with it sealed the matter.

we had a Krispy Kreame outlet open up here just recently. Sales second day didnt go well when a 12 year old walked in , picked up a box then promptly barffed up over the whole display.

I would pay to see that happen again.

I think the novelty of getting Krispy Kremes wore off when they because a nation wide franchise. I remember when people would by 4 dozen boxes and bring them onto a domestic flight home as if they were a limited edition specialty no one else could get. Pretty much an attempt to evoke envy for the remainder of the passengers on a flight out of Qld/NSW/Vic.

The good old window to weight gain.
It used to be kind of funny when my young bloke was little. The bribe to make him not complain when crocery shopping was something from donut king. The amount of concentration when he was deciding between iced with sprinkes, frog in a pond, dinosaur, human or mobile phone was impressive, then came further concentration on his next important decision, what colour icing. Kids have different priorities in life.

So, I was at a Balfours outlet in a well known Adelaide shopping center last year and about to place an order for my favorite product of theirs, the custard tart. All of a sudden, my daughter was frantically clawing at my shoulder and telling me to walk away. My reaction was to ask why she was stopping me from partaking in the custardy nutmegy delicacy when she pointed out that a rather large cockroach was having its dinner in the donut section of the display cabinet.

I was truly shocked and my immediate thought was to warn the people behind the counter of this occurrence. They initially took the situation seriously but I sensed it wasn't the first time that this had happened. They went looking for the six legged bakery thief and we walked away.

Half an hour after, we walked past the same place and the donuts were still on display with no effort made to remove the contaminated items.

I never ate Balfours donuts again after that, just couldn't get the image of the insect going to town on them out of my head.

I used to work at the Balfours factory for a time in the late noughties. There are many stories about the practices there and the characters I could recount but on the subject of donuts:

The donut crew would always leave a tray of the days' haul in the staff room to which I'd smash often.

One day I was doing just that when I remarked something to the effect of "love the taste of fresh donuts" and the rest of them sitting on the table erupted into laughter when one of them said to me "that donut you're eating was made in Sydney 6 months ago, frozen and trucked over".

A valuable lesson to learn as a 17 year old

Speaking of Balfours, they sell pineapple doughnuts.

According to this article, they’re not the same as the ones from the school canteens in days gone by.

I can't remember if this has already been mentioned, but has anyone been to Vili's of late?

Its been a few years for me, but its considered to be a decent 24hr bakery.
