When I take the cortina out it's only taken out for the funess of driving, so there's no such thing as not enough power. the more the better.
On the other hand when I'm just commuting I'm quite happy cruising back with 158kw in the jag. If you want fun then more power the better. If you want commuting then more comfort the better, or to some better fuel economy.

It funny how these old threads pop up every now and again.
My daily work ute has like 95 kw at the engine....Maybe 75 80 at the ground And still does a burn out...lol My ute at the engine I would guess about 500kw or 670hp...417kw at the ground Now thats fun... Kev

I guess if you have enough power to bag a set of ET Streets in any gear till rev limiter with only a crack of the throttle, that *might* just be enough.

As Mark Donahue said “When I have enough power to still be spinning the rear wheels at the end of the main straight, that’ll be enough” .
To stir the pot a bit – 102kw at the front wheels is enough to keep a stock F6 auto honest at Winton. If I had any more I imagine they’d be really nervous. Don’t worry fellas I’m still chasing braking and handling improvements before I try and go for more grunt from my engine.

We do a lot of work on a circuit boat at work. It has a Toyota 2JZ in it that puts out 1350 hp. the guy that built the engine has the exact same engine in his Supra. The thing will fry its rear tyres in 5th peg if you crack the throttle in corners.
He gave us all a drufting demo around the industrial area one night. |

The TS50 has 250kw and I must say it makes me happy!
Fair enough, my fuel economy sucks (just over 400k's a tank city driving), but for me its all about my V8 rumble and knowing I own a piece of Australian history. Yes, I'll probably end up buying a 4 banger to drive to and from work in (the gateway is a killer in peak hour), but I know I'll dearly miss the sound of my engine when i put the foot down ever so slightly. The TS will never be sold though, garaged during the week, if the 4 banger does come along, and driven on the weekends just so I dont completly go insane. Its all about that V8 rumble, its just sexy!!!!

enough power to overpass them pesky drivers that sit on 10 kays under the limit and also enough power to get out onto the main rd from a side street before the kilometre of traffic heads your way. Give me a car that can do that easy and I'll be happy

Ive got 291rwkw and thats heaps for me but probably will up the power to just over 300 in the near future. But could change the gear and tyres and it will be a completely different car.

My AU ..141 rwkws sounds like its got trillion killowatts and its fast enough. As far as I am concerned a car should give a rush of excitement every now and then. Its why we are alive. To live and enjoy with passion.

Enough power to floor it around a corner sitting on the limiter in first smoking the wheels, then flat shifting to second, with enough power to spin the wheels upto 6,000Rpm, then chirping 3rd gear. I'm guessing thats around 250-350rwkw.

Well IMO i think for my case, a BA with 182FWKW's is nice (parents car) but if they threw extractors and an exhaust that would be sweet.
But my AU just doesnt have the kick that i want, it has a slight bit at about 5000Rpm but like its not what im looking for (and for the record no i wasnt driving) So then come extractors, exhaust, pod and XR6 Cam soon =) (by the way im still on my L's) But then again if your willing to pay for the power for 300rwkws i would say go for it, but if i was to do it, it would have to be a similar ride as standard and have a flash tuner to tune down for fuel economy. |

Well I find it funny how when I test drove my ute in 99 I was then driving a mighty boy and I was driving the xh around still in second gear thinking "This is way too much power for me, ill kill my self"
Now 9 yrs later im thinking "God come on! speed up! this thing is so slow!"

hey, i'm from south wales. uk and it's getting to the stage where the everyday working person is going to be restricted to a sub 100 bhp car and only the rich will be able to drive around in the 400 powered horsies.
you're looking at a top speed of 103 mph and running on 8 valves. don't know if these restrictions are coming into your country as yet. but it is crippling. where your road tax costs three times as much as your road insurance. speed cameras are everywhere (and they're disguised) and an ever increasing number of 20mph speed limits in built up areas. but the most fun i have had is on the autobahn's in germany. there is no speed limit. |

You can never have too much horsepower, just not enough traction.
I have a hyundai just to commute around in, But my toy, I just wanna go for a cruise and come out of the car all jelly legged. :

However the amount of power I'd need on my ED I'd say would be around the 120kw mark (Saying my ed has 148kw which I know it doesn't).

In all fairness, any less than 250rwkw is not enough. Any more than 350rwkw is a waste of rubber.

Well my stock 4 litre boots along fine for me.
EDIT: If it can get up hills without struggling. Pick up speed quickly. And get me from A to B comfortably and without effort. It's got enough power.
