I'm not so sure the future is all that rosy if imports are allowed.
who will warrant the product if required? spare parts availability? insurance premiums? |

Interesting the tendency to protect official importers of overseas manufactured cars when there has been so little political will to protect indigenously located manufacturers.

It's very easy to get spare parts from anywhere in the world these days and cheaply too. Insurance premiums shouldn't be affected. My LHD import costs no more to insure. |

What happens when you get a lemon from a manufacturer with the 3 year warranty anyway? Its not like we have lemon laws, we still get stuck with the problem and out of pocket.
Is it really any different with imports? Not really. |

Its only new vehicles that are being talked about.
Public has only fixated on expencive sports cars that make up for stuff all. what about the thousands on mining and industrial vehicles that will flood in as they do now with machinery. all cars now sold have warranty for life-we all know how good that works. Its a legal warranty and if you look hard you find that marques or distributors have gone from OZ to avoid these obligations. I have imported 2 cars and a 3rd in parts. My last job was making imported cars ready for sale and warranty repairs. If you want to do the job just ban used car imports in Sydney and Melbourne. average age of vehicles in Sydney is 6 year old-average age in regional Australia is a growing 15-25 years. with the increase of electronic crap fitted to modern vehicles even government departments are now purchasing used vehicles. I can tell you that they want to import there own vehicles if they could.

who will warrant the product if required? The seller will have to provide a statutory warranty exactly like they do now. spare parts availability? See Above insurance premiums? Im sure the industry will sort itself out if they think they can make a buck insuring grey imports

Sorry, mate, do you care to elaborate on this comment? Are you talking about statutory warranty?

If only for LHD... can you imagine
"Ford sales up strongly on this time last year, reversing a decade of losing market share, boosted by a massive increase in F150 and F250 from private importers..."

If you import it yourself your on your own. The savings would have to be significant for someone to do this.

Would cause much more **** ache than having the importer paying out of their pocket to convert to RHD.

VFacts would be topped by private importers importing the manufacturers products
