Tight deadline=in a hurry to complete= possible mistakes, I can relate to this and feel your anguish.
Sounds like Murphy's law kicked in, better luck next time.

That was exactly it. Trying to get the correct o-ring, which is PTFE banded on the outside, is another quest - I’m likely to need a Viton seal in there to “make do”

Yep, can relate to your comment... and I'm still alive to prove it!

Did an oil change on my R1, (long time ago) no probs. Fitted sump plug. Check.
Phone rang.. c'mon man, where are you? he says...
15 minutes later, put the new oil in it, turned the key and headed to the hills for a Saturday arvo blast.

Got to one of my favorite straights and saw a victim in the distance and new I could be in front of it by the next 25Kmp/h corner. Done.
When turning into the sweeper before the 25Kmp/h corner the back stepped out, the handlebars went to the stop... and I thought, bugger, back tyre has a puncture...
Slowed down to investigate, the fairing filled with acrid blue smoke.. hit the kill switch. Like WTAF????

Stopped, got off, had a look down the road I just came from to discover an oil trail... leading to my bike.. Hmmm, must a forgotten to tighten the sump plug. BUGGA!

Phoned a friend, he lived 5 mins away. He came sporting a 17mm socket and 5 Litres of Motul. Luckily the sump plug had wedged itself between the exhaust and the fairing. All good. filled, tightened and ready to go... Almost.

How the Fsck do I get rid of the oil that's soaked the rear tyre???
Thinking, thinking.
I was parked on a dirt verge.. Hops on it, fired it up (makes all the right noises) Grabs 1st gear, front brake applied, did a small skid. Oil be gone! Check!

Never pays to be in a hurry. It only seems to cost more time in the scheme of things.
Hospital visit averted... this time.

Happy Sunday!

Cheers,

One Mad Man

This very occurrence is why I don't answer calls or allow minor distractions when doing certain jobs.
I've been caught ot not paying attention and going through the mental checklist; I forgot to put the sump plug back in!
At least there was a visual indicator, unlike yours.

In my previous career job, I had a polite way of telling people to f*** off and don't distract me, when you are playing with 1500 dc voltage with electric trains, full concentration is required for zero errors to be made, one's life depends on it.

Idiots that show unqualified people how to do dangerous stuff.

Had a friend who was right in to arts and crafts, she would give anything a go.
Some clown introduced her to do it yourself form of very dangerous wood burning, she tried it.

She's no longer with us...

lost on that one?

edit - was wondering how you would die burning some wood.... googled it - is this where they use electricity? So she electrocuted herself?

Looks like there are a few that have died this way.... Crazy and sad - sorry for your loss. Always treat electricity with the respect it deserves.

Sorry for your loss, I assume Fractal Burning, that is very dangerous process to be playing with, the person who introduced her or sold the equipment should be charged with manslaughter, since it is illegal here in Australia to have these machines.

Moving right along..

I mentioned a few posts ago that I wanted a genuine windscreen replaced in the Toyo. Shannons said NO to the $1100+ cost. They did say YES to the $450 aftermarket one. Tick.

Submitted this invoice to them to be reimbursed:

Gave them a call on Mon dee (26-11-2024) and they said, no worries. Just got this email from them:

hmm, can anyone see the problem with this?

Yep, gotta hate that!

Cheers,

One Mad Man

For those like myself who have no idea what Fractal wood burning is, and just how dangerous it is.
Note; it's also popular on tik-tok.

Yep, thats it.
Made her own apparently.
Im told she was shown a video of it but not sure if it was a how to or just of the finished product.
Can only imagine she then googled it and found how to make one without reading the comments often attached that suggest just how deadly it is.

I'd never heard of it before until I googled it.

Im told it went way beyond electrocution is all I'll say.

Main reason I posted that link, to serve as a warning to others who may come across this artistic practice unaware of the many fatal dangers it incorporates.
