It's not the first time there's been no v8 ute.... Big gap from xe to xh with no v8.

The idea above that ute may actually be a fg 3 ala bf3 is interesting.

No one has yet to attempt a fh style ute chop I don't think?

I wonder how close to the truth that comment is.

Fh front with what is basically still an au tub would certainly be an 'interesting' look.

To be realistic, if a company is scaling down a product, about to end its production and one particular version of it isn't selling well, to continue to produce it is pointless.

It's obvious that Ford doesn't produce vehicles just for small groups of enthusiast buyers. If that were the case, we would've seen all sorts of fantasy Falcon variants hit the market, such as a modern Falcon coupe or a crew-cab ute. Hell, maybe we would've even seen the mythical twin-turbo V10 GT-HO in the showrooms.

If you are really going to buy a V8 Falcon ute, you've still got time to get a new FPV GS. There might still be some cheap runout GS utes in 2016.

I have had my NSW "XR8UTE" plates in RTA storage for about 5 years and was over the moon when they announced the XR8 nameplate was coming back. I was hoping to buy a final model XR8 ute but I am now gutted. I am disappointed not only for myself but for all the guys and girls who love these vehicles.

If they love them so much they would be buying then then they would still exist. oh that's right the all do buy them, when they are 5 years old and cheap which means zero to the ford accountants.

Simple supply and demand rule of business - some people I reckon have trouble with the basics.
I'm probably a little guilty of this. However I have been a Falcon buyer and staunch supporter...just not an XR8 Falcon ute buyer. The reason I'm p!ssed is due to the timing of it all.

I've always aspired to own a new XR8 ute since the XH. They were horny looking buggers and still are. That was a ute that had great lines. I haven't really desired an FPV GS ute...I wanted a Ford Falcon XR8. Not entirely certain why...probably because I wanted a v8 ute with a ford badge on it, I don't really know. The XR8 nameplate is just tougher to me...compared to the GS although the 315 Miami probably offers a bit of toughness of it's own (certainly becoming a compelling argument...)

Like everyone else you work hard over a long period of time, and I have bought 3 new fords in my time (EL/BA/FG) and owned 3 others (XT - 289v8/XW/BA Ute - 6 cyl) second hand. Never quite had enough disposable $ to opt for a new v8 ute so have opted for the more sensible option of the 6, which to be honest is still a great all round hard working package. Can't kill 'em.

After missing the boat on the FG XR8 when they 'retired' them, I was resigned to perhaps grudgingly looking at the GS "one-day". So then I hear the XR8 is back....but only in sedan. Bugger!.

Anyway, not a bleeding heart story, but it's just unfortunate circumstances that finally after years of toil you get to a point where you can contemplate the splurge on the v8...and that the one you really want might be back...only to hear it isn't...damn.

Ah well, life goes on and unfortunately one day without the next model Aussie Falcon & Falcon Ute to look forward to so just have to enjoy this last one while we can.

It'd be great to get a insight into FPV monthly sales in the last 12 months to see what is driving Fords decisions. Might get a fright. Many have accused Ford of milking the remaining time for the FPV range...but in reality perhaps they need to DRIVE demand to keep it going even until late next year. Hey the F6 ute died a silent death, at least with V8 we have notice.

As someone who has purchased a number of new Falcons and currently drives an XR8 ute.. I was going to buy another V8 ute of the final model.
Now to figure out what to do. Do I buy a GS ute or flag it all and just settle for a Ranger or something.

I could buy some sandals, get a vasectomy, start eating tofu and buy a Prius

They should just offer the 3.5 V6 EcoBoost in the Ranger to satisfy the V8 crowd. That engine has proven itself once again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR-gM...wotkAf1bXVTRvN

Vs the new Chevy 6.2 Gen 5 with direct injection

And it did well on Top Gear America tonight pulling a Boeing 727.

Yes I was in the same boat. I have a BA MKii Super Pursuit bought brand new and was ready to trade it in on the new supercharged V8 and then they cancelled the Pursuit range and only released a GS basically a Xr8 with FPV badge. Not really a replacement for what I had I decided to wait. Then I lodged interest at Ford regarding the return of the Pursuit to be let down again that it was only a sticker pack. Now I find out that the V8 ute is gone altogether. And yes I could buy a GS now but its not long for the new FH. I hope Ford are going to give us a XR6T with at least F6 motor and brembo options. Hopefully they do otherwise I may have to look at the dark side for a performance ute. And yes I need a ute for work purposes otherwise I would buy a sedan so no one start bringing that up. Sorry just having a rant cos Ford doesn't listen.

Only reason I can see with Ford not offering a V8 ute is the fact they are hoping there isnt any in house competitor for the Mustang.

I guess they are forcing anyone who is after a 2 door V8 Ford into their future poster child.

The 3.5 Ecoboost is a good engine but they are having a lot of reliability problems with them, and as a result of that and Sync issues Ford have slid well down the JD Power quality rankings.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of me buying a Mustang in the future but not as a replacement for my ute. If Ford thinks I am going to trade my ute on a Mustang and load it up with posts or equipment then they need to hire some new people with brains. Unless of course there is something we don't know and they will have a Mustang ute

If you enjoy driving cars (like me), you would get the V8 (XR8) Sedan, and loose the "ye olde oxe-cart" rigid rear axel, and about 78Kgs in weight.

Yes, contrary to common belief, the ute is actually significantly HEAVIER than the sedan.

(The XR6T Sed = 1732Kg, XR6T Ute = 1810 Kg - as per Ford Specs)

You would also gain a very nice IRS rear end that is lightyears ahead of the ute's museum piece - and which is much more rewarding for the driver.

BTW, the Auto has Sequential Sports Shift - and can be used just like a manual.
Rubbish

GS ute is one the highlights of the current FPV range, any one that loves a V8 and has owned a ute knows how versatile they are and what were losing... Forget the weight and the handling, you don't buy a ute to tackle Targa!

Bad move Ford, XR8 ute would have been a great seller, likely outselling either outgoing GS or XR6T

Does make you wonder if XR8 will be the big hitter... Production lines are funny things and a 335 XR8 sedan would really make it hard to work a separate harness/calibration into the line for a 315 ute.

Of all the “death by a thousand cuts” decisions, this one makes the least sense of all, in fact it makes ZERO.
I can sorta understand them axing FPV, I could definitely understand them dropping the V8 altogether and/or dropping the Ute. But this? Nope.
The FH is going to be a face-lifted FG, and they’re not tweaking the engine so no new compliance issues.
They will produce an FH Ute.
They will produce an FH with the V8.
They already have the F-series platform with the V8 (the GS.)
It would cost them literally nothing in marketing, since they will already be selling both the XR8, and the Ute.

And it WOULD sell. V8’s account for about half of Commode Ute sales.

And at this point, there’s going to be a lot of people wanting to buy “one of the last…” So there’ll be plenty of people who WOULD purchase an XR8 Ute, but would have less interest in a new I6 Ute.

The ONLY thing I can think of, is if the FH were to be regarded as a whole new model, and therefore require re-compliance for all engine options? I can’t see that being the case as it will simply be a face-lifted F-series, and changing anything to the point of re-compliancing WOULD be a bad decision.

Unless there really is a big difference between the 315 & the 335??? I have always just figured it was stickers & a tune? But maybe to continue producing both versions would be extra expensive?

I'm not sure what people mean by a “FG3, like the BF3”? What else do you expect it to be?
The BF3 was made because the sedan shifted to the new E8 (aka “F-series”) platform, and the wagon variant did not make it into production so they continued to build it on the old EA169 (A/B series) platform.
The FH will just be a face-lifted FG, still on the E8 platform, so they won’t have to “graft” anything.

Everytime i hop in the ba XR8 ute now i keep wondering if i can get the IRS into the back end of it, its going up on the hoist soon to see if the chassis rails are the same distance apart. should be close enough if you can get one into an XB should be able to get it into the ute.

What was meant by that, is that the shape wont get upgraded to the new front end. They've made silly decisions so far, wouldnt be shocked to see the FG metal continue on the ute.

Of course the new ute will get the upgraded front end, they won't run two different versions for sedan and ute anymore. The backend is a different story, the ute will more than likely carry over the tray unchanged or very slightly altered.

Indeed. From the door handles forwward the Ute IS the sedan, thats kinda the point.
As I said, the reason the B series wagon continued was becuase it was built on the old platform. Grafting an F-series nose to the B series platform WOULD have been counterproductive. The Ute is ALREADY on the E8 platform, so any new hnaging panles for the FH will simple transfer over.
Why on earth would they go to all the extra trouble and expense of continuing FG production?

There were a few issues, but seem to be low in proportion to the number of EcoBoosts that have been sold. They push the F-150 from 0-100 in 6.2 seconds. The F-150 crew weighs about 2600 Kg, the Ranger weighs about 2150 Kg. I think it would mean a lot of fun!
