the local BP up the road from me shut their pumps off of the pulp when the price is cheap....i went today, price of ULP is cheap and wah-lah - no PULP available - all closed. so i ended up going somewhere else.

saw a report on ACA a while back about fuel, they tested some pumps with out of order signs on and they worked! BP and caltex both. I decided to try one so around September gave it a whirl, sure enough, fuel pumped through. I asked the attendant and he said they might have put the sign on the wrong pump. I shook my head n left. Any ideas as to why they'd do this? I live in Adelaide and so far no 98 shortage at all! No anything shortage as far as I seen

Having worked in a servo for a few years there was always fuel left in the tank so as not to have to prime the pumps if they ran out. About 2-500ltrs to be on the safe side. Secondly pumps inour servo were not able to be turned off individually only in banks of two or three so if one of them were out you had to leave all them on with the sign on them. Thirdly although the operator is supposed to but they wont always look out to see the pump he is turning on. Hears a noise, touches a screen pump on.

I wouldn't suggest for anyone to use a hose that was labelled out of order, unless they want the pump to suck up all the at the bottom of the servo's tank. Think about it. That out of order sign could be on those hoses for any reason, if you use them I would dare say you would have a hard time getting any compensation from the service station if the fuel does damage to your car, even if it is the company's fault (bad batch of fuel, wrong fuel in the wrong tank, wrong grade in the wrong tank, or whatever). Usually the decision to put out of order signs on the pumps, in the short term at least, is made by the store manager during the day and by the console operator after hours. Do you think they would be privy to this big scam that apparently is being conducted by those big bad oil companies. And if so, wouldn't have one of those disgruntled former store managers or console operators come out by now? They could write their own cheque and have Packer/Stokes/Murdoch sign it, it would be that big of a story. |

I went to the Gold Coast for chrissy/new years, and on the way up, BP at Gundy had all their car pumps closed, the truck section was still operating, so we went around to the Caltex on by-pass and they had 91 and 95 so we filled up.
Once we got to the Goldy i didn't notice any of the supposed fuel shortage, the price was heaps lower then what I could get fuel in Moree. On the way home we stopped in Gundy for fuel again and this time Caltex had no 95 tired the BP and they had everything.

There is still the odd 95 or 98 shortage. I filled with ultimate at maroochydore rd on Sunday @ $1.12, they were out of 95. Nambour (currie st) had 95 but was out of ultimate.

And funnily enough, the two CALTEX service stations in the same area both had plenty of fuel. The explanation for the BP"s being out of fuel was that "The pumps were tripping out the fuse box and might cause a fire if they are used" :I got this explanation at both the BP's. But maybe the whinging Queenslanders like me made this happen.

I just love those customers that come in all abusive because we have our out of order signs on pumps. Yes we put them on some pumps at night due to drive offs etc but we don't purposely shut pumps down that people will need (leave at least a few of each type of fuel available) unless there is a damn good reason. The other customers I have fun with is those that come in abusing us at the console for the prices. Whilst I mainly work in the cafe section, I quite often end up helping on the console part. If you have been one of those morons that abuse, you wouldn't forget my reply that is for sure :

I found their explanation amusing, as I have an electrical trade and know that there would be no danger of fire. And also the fact that the same reason was given at both servo's. Coincidence? Perhaps. You may work at one of the BP's I am talking about.

I may well work at one of them, or could have done relief shifts there as have worked at quite a few of the stations on the North side. The only BPs that don't follow BP COCO Policy are the privately owned ones, but there aren't really too many of them around anymore Oh and I wasn't saying that you in particular might have been rude or abusive, but we do get quite a few that are.
