Petrol prices dropping

I think the last time I put ULP in - last Tuesday? It was about 142.9... glad I did it last week and not this week, considering the average is closer to 150 today.

I can't believe servos are still allowed to do what those two did. It's pretty poor form to drastically drop your price then your opposition down the road does the same. Then to ramp up the price again when the competition runs out of fuel.

This is why the government wants to introduce Fuel Watch nationwide. Every service station has to set their price at a certain time and can't change it for 24 hours..

The price war btw was between an independent and multinational, the independent was trying to gain publicity highlighting the dire straights (sounds like a band) that such are in, - the so described 'unfair advantage' the multinationals have in relation to the small guy.

Fuelwatch? Another way of buggering up free-market by stifling competition. But its appeal will be to many.

NRMA was on TV saying tonight that we are being ripped off to the tune of at least 14cpl.

The CEO of Caltex was caught / cornered almost at a CEO convention in Sydney and was asked to comment. He basically said that we have a very efficient market and that prices flow through within 3 days or so.

Well, just 12 months ago, they said the cycle was 3 weeks...

Oh, if it takes just 3 days for price changes to filter through then we are more than 3 weeks behind schedule...

Even if OPEC decide to cut production by 1-1.5 million barrels of oil per day I can't see this having any upwards effect on crude oil prices. If we're lucky we'll see it return to 50-60 dollars per barrel, and fuel prices between 1.10-1.20 per litre.

Hopefully that will have a positive effect on the car industry.

BTW I was surprised to pay only $1.53 per litre for BP U98 today.

We Have been Paying this sort of Money for 91 ULP (last 6-8 Months) as the Pump price has hardly Moved even though the Barrell price has Fallen by approx $90.00 a Barrell in that same time period.

$1.41 in gold coast. It's funny how we often say i paid $1.60 for fuel 'it's great' when we're still paying inflated prices. They have skyrocketed the prices so much that when they lower it by ten cents we we actuall believe it's cheap.

we're still paying$1.57.9 in Mudgee and the price hasn't moved more than 2C in over a month although diesel has come back to within 12c of ULP from near on 25c more not long ago. Has anyone noticed the price of LPG hasn't moved at all through all this though.

I heard this as well What I do not understand is isn't it up to the oil companies to charge us what they want, or is there regulation that sets the prices.

Don't get me wrong I would love to be paying less I just do not understand how the pricing works and how nrma and others can say it should be cheaper.

Which is one of the main reasons why we are in this shortage in the first place...Americans etc driving massive trucks around and only having to pay 81c a litre...no wonder Toyota are creaming Ford and GM over there now and i for one am glad...save a little fuel for the rest of us wont you?

ULP was down to $1.30 per litre on the North end of the Gold Coast, +10c/litre for Vortex 98 or 12c/litre for Ultimate 98.

For those in capital cities, you can monitor the costs and trends etc by logging into a site called Motor Mouth. It tells you the fuel costs as monitored in your chosen region, and the cheapest fuel around, and on what days the fuel is cheapest...

As I said, its mainly in the Capital Cities, and the Gold Coast, but is expanding....

I noticed tonight that petrol on the Northern end of the Gold Coast is between 130.9-136.9 and diesel is coming down to between $1.40.9-$148.9
BUT LPG is still way too high at 71.9c/L-73.9c/L. There's only a few that still have it for under 70c/L.

I always thought at the Toyota Dealerships, the Prius' were hidden behind the Tundras. But it's the other way around, it's the Prius that stands out. Nobody notices or criticizes the Tundra... probably cos it got Trucktrend truck of they year, but the new 09 Ram is better anyway. I bet if you lined up all the Chevy models with all the Toyotas, Chevy would win on mpg nearly every time.

Colorado 22mpg / Tacoma 20mpg (4x4 auto 3.7I5 Chev, 4L V6 Toyota)
Traverse 24mpg / Highlander/Kluger 24mpg (bear in mind the Traverse is significantly larger, but closest equiv.)
Impala V6 29mpg / Avalon 28mpg
Malibu 33mpg / Camry 31mpg

Well done to Toyota... they lose on.. pretty much all of them. I tried to find a Toyota equivalent to the Corvette, but couldn't. I didn't look up the Camry Hybrid and Malibu Hybrid, but i think they are pretty close together. Perception is more important than reality in a lot of these cases.

They get both named the same also. And they sell squillions !!

Toyota keep generally keep brand names across the board. There are one or two that they have badged differently in the US. eg: Highlander = Klugar here.

Just watching ACA and there a bunch of Servos Selling Petrol atr 99.9c a litre in Happy Hours..............thats the independant servo's - not Shell or the big company ones
