The ones you’ve described that drop down and exit behind the tyres have been popular in the U.S. since the muscle car days and they’re often referred to as Chevy Drop Pipes.

Diff dumpers usually just curl over the diff with no additional pipe.

You're right and I'm wrong, I was thinking about how they curled down and thought I written some odd when I read it but still didn't pick it up what it was.

Used to run this on the track years ago in my XB Coupe, sounded good, but no good for daily road use. Dual 3" straight through mufflers stainless steel mandrel bends.

Bolt on and off in about an hour, I could fit or remove tail pipes in about 20 minutes with a jack and some car stands.





PS: I made that system at home in my garage using some stainless tubing, and a $90 welder from Super Cheap:

They're the ones I did such a bad job of describing.

In the old days you could always pick them out from a mile away on a street car by the dust cloud that formed under and around the rear of the car then followed it everywhere it went.

Though they did played a part in keeping the roads clean.
