I think the Escort is built to fit in to some specific Chinese tax related dimensions.
Mondeo is too big, and the Focus is too small. Focus was designed as hatch primarily, Escort will be solely designed as a sedan. Its biggest engine will be 1.5 also (also tax related) so its probably not something that will be of much interest here.

The Chinese like cars with more leg room in the back than other countries do, so a lot of manufacturers make lwb versions of regular small sedans like the 3 series BMW LWB, Audi A4 LWB etc.

Drove alongside it on Bacchus Marsh road this morning heading into Geelong. Very sleek looking, the front end has similar proportions to the face lifted Focus due soon, from what I can gather from photos seen...
