Interesting video on what they can get out of the 3 cylinder 1.0 litre. Yes it is in a Formula Ford ..... but 11th fastest track time at Nürburgring you think would be a stretch?

Well, if the 2.4 liter non turbo F1 engines can produce 800+ horsepower @19000rpm and 360kph, albeit a bit more technically advanced, anything is possible.

Up to 200 hp? Awesome. Glad Ford is dropping it in the new Fusion as well as the Focus and Fiesta. At least they are in Europe.
In the Fiesta it's just as quick as the 1.6 na with fuel consumption in the 3s... Ford Aus should get it asap. |

like the 2.0 ecoboost this engine is a gem, can't wait to see it used more often.

Aus, you could have put this in that thread I made earlier. Anyway..
At this tune It'd be using more fuel of course, but how much is a good question. Enough to power Falcon and get it into the 7.0L/100km range? Dunno. Sounds hot though, and the overrun sounds like something out of Star Wars.

VW just released figures and such for the new Gen 7 Golf. Base model is a 1.4L turbo making more power and torque, yet using less fuel than this engine when powering a Golf, letalone a Polo.
Technology is advancing so rapidly ATM it's crazy... |

I'm fairly excited for this engine, once all the aftermarket companies figure out how to manipulate the ECU wizardry I think we're in for some fast Fiestas

These aren't shoehorned into your local Fiesta though.
Auslandau, I was not talking about putting an F1 engine in a Fiesta, just pointing out that with technology where it is today, drop a turbo on any engine and apply a bit of engineering brilliance then you get some startling results. A Fiesta in road trim with 800+ horsepower would be outright scary. Or just uncontrollable. |
