If you are talking about the building of sub-assemblies, this is something Ford had been out-sourcing for some time. They had been working towards what is called "modular build" where basically they were going to try to get the parts of the vehicles to come into the plant in as assembled a state as possible so that there would only be minimal assembly required at the Ford plant. It is realized some sub-assembly work can be done cheaper at the vendor's location. That is just how it was, but modular assembly was very resisted by the union. Now, with the competitive operating agreements that were made by re-opening the contract in 2005, and with the landmark consessions and work rule changes in the tranformational 2007 contract Ford is finding it cheaper to bring work on these sub-assemblies back in-house. You know they will only do this if they can save money and maintain or improve quality of the work. There isn't too much being reported on this in the media though. Steve
