A Stobie pole is a power line pole made of two steel joists held apart by a slab of concrete in the middle. It was invented by Adelaide Electricity Supply Company design engineer James Cyril Stobie (1895-1953). He used the materials easily at hand due to the shortage of timber caused by the arid and treeless nature of much of South Australia. His invention of two spare pieces of railway track bolted together with cement in the middle was patented in 1924.

Also in the article:
The poles are fireproof, rotproof, and termiteproof. They are also "car proof", causing enormous amounts of damage to vehicles when collided with.

"THIS $250,000 Ferrari was almost sliced in half yesterday, yet the two men inside astonishingly escaped serious injury.

They had "turned the streets into a racetrack" before crashing into the pole, in Walkerville, just before noon.

The driver, aged in his 30s, and his passenger were treated in Royal Adelaide Hospital for minor injuries.

....."

Still, what a bloody waste of a nice car...

WTF...???

I bet ya now (as this litigous world is), the driver will now sue the Stobie system for damage to the car.
It's always the way.

I don't think it took much of an effort to type "stobie pole" into Google and the first link would be Wikipedia. Which would give you an extensive description of a "stobie pole".So before you start posting stupid replies, give it some thought and maybe some research. Cause in my opinion there are more people to none that know what a "stobie pole" is.
No hard feelings.

If the car had the effort and snapped the pole I suppose you would call it a stubbie pole.

Stuff all chance of that I would reckon.

Gee ! , it's wrapped harder around that pole than a bunch of Greenpeace dudes chained to a tree trying to protect it. What a mess !.

a shame the experience in acquiring enough wealth to purchase such an assett does not provide the foresight to tell the snot nosed little so and so, "You want to drive what....... not in this lifetime boy.
It wouldn't surprise me if the insurance company did cover it. As far as I can tell the Dad is a rich business owner who would probably have most/all of his stuff insured at the same place. Which would give them thousands in premiums each year. They probably wouldn't mind a few hundred grand write off if it was to keep a "whale" of a customer on their books.

That's exactly right mate. They'll pay him out no worries to keep him as a customer. They'll just recoup their money by passing it on to the rest of their customers. If you unexpectedly get a price increase for your insurance, you know who he's insured by!
