Smile HOT lanes - where motorists pay more to drive faster - could become part of Brisbane’s road network

"HOT lanes - where motorists pay more to drive faster - could become part of Brisbane’s road network following the sale of Queensland Motorways to a forward-thinking private consortium.

One of the new owners Transurban pioneered the high occupancy toll lane concept for its United States’ interests and has not ruled out adopting the same approach in southeast Queensland, if it could enhance the performance of the road network.

The company will take over toll operations for the Gateway Bridges, the Logan Motorway, the Clem7 Tunnel and the Go Between Bridge from late June and Legacy Way when it opens next year.

Along with consortium partners AustralianSuper and the Abu Dhabi-based Tawreed, Transurban paid $6.7 billion for the toll roads, plus $384 million in stamp duty."
