Land Rover has developed new technology that will create a 'see-through' bonnet.

"No this isn’t something out of a James Bond movie. Land Rover claims it has invented a “see-through” bonnet that allows drivers to see more of the road.

Using cameras mounted on the front of the car Land Rover is able to project that image of the road onto the bonnet via the heads-up display, making the bonnet appear invisible to the occupants of the car.

The technology - dubbed Transparent Bonnet - means that the driver can see more of the road and avoid any obstacles in the road.

This new system is one of a number of new features that Land Rover will debut on the Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept it will unveil at the 2014 New York motor show.

“We believe the next 25 years will be the most exciting and dynamic the automotive industry has ever experienced,” said, Jaguar Land Rover director of research and technology, Dr Wolfgang Epple. “There will be huge strides in environmental innovation, in safety and capability.

“As our vehicles become more capable and autonomous off-road, we will ensure the driver has the confidence to allow the car to continue to progress, over any terrain. We are developing new technologies including the Transparent Bonnet to give drivers an augmented view of reality to help them tackle anything from the toughest off-road route to the tight confines of an urban car park."
