One day the guy across the road 21 years old was mowing the lawn and the mower kept dieing it was a 2 stroke and the plugs kept fouling up I cleaned them and started it he said " ok so what I will do now is start it up and once it is going I will remove the spark plug that should stop it fouling up " or two Commonwealth police officers blow a Commonwealth car up by trying to jump start there car the wrong way great understanding of the basic petrol engine principle there

I used to work next door to a mechanical workshop and they were telling me that a guy who had just dropped off his Nissan Exa turbo was complaining that the car wasn't making any boost.
After inspection it turned out he had topped up his oil, but not to the full mark on the dipstick, he actually filled it all the way to the top of the oil filler cap! |

My wife used to work with a woman who had an Audi A4, and always talked about how she drove an Audi - even though it was over 10 years old... Anyway, the low oil light came on, and she dropped into the nearest servo and checked her oil. She then proceeded to buy 5L bottle after 5L bottle to top the engine up, all the way to the top. When her husband found out what she had done, he almost blew HIS top! Somehow, the engine didn't suffer any visible damage, but we laughed about that for weeks!

I will throw the hat in the ring about me. Was mowing the lawn with my 2 stroke victa- running late on a very hot afternoon, had a barbie planned and was looking forward to some cold beers.
Petrol was running low- ie started spluttering, piece of crap mower always went through the juice fast. Instead of turning off- in a burst of brainwave brilliance, left on, got can of petrol, and without funnel hurriedly poured petrol in, with some petrol missing the mark-end result machine burst alight, fire spreading from machine and then onto lawn....which was dry and on a hot summers day the fire spread...and fire spread towards the can in my hand.... Flurried backstep to avoid can in my hand exploding, and by the time I had put the fire out, there was one melted victa lawn mower and a black round circle in the lawn that looked like a UFO had landed. But best thing I could have done, got rid of that 2 stroke piece of crap and now have a 4 stroke Honda....so actually it was an intentional act of brilliance by me....

Ill dob myself in for one.
I remember when i first got my license and i owned and 88 ea fairmont ghia. Well one day i decided id service it, so i had everything there ready to go and so i get underneath to undo the sump plug, and it wont budge, so immediately thought "oh i must be turning it the wrong way" so i try going the other way and surely enough it moves, but then it just keeps spinning, what i had done was strip the thread on the sump plug. Everytime i serviced that car for the next 18 months i had to pump out the oild oil by hand because i couldnt drain it. I have plenty more stories but ill wait until i hear some other ones before i make myself look TOO stupid. |

sprintman1 so true advertising is responisble for many of us buying rubbish
a good add man can sell fridges to Eskimos they say It is happening here now but the USA have channels that sell things all the time and the spin doctors really push the envelope I think the best Aussie one was Holden meat pies and Kangaroos

I know an old man who used coolant stop leak in his motor. Thought it would stop a leak.
Motor sounded terrible like lifters had gone. He thought motor was gone and ready to throw car away. He showed me what he put in it and i just said nooo. We flushed the motor 3 times with new oil and oil filters it was all good. He still has same car today many years on. Runs like new |

Next door neighbour over filled the oil on his car and proceeded to drain it by constantly putting in the dipstick and wiping it off instead of undoing the sump plug again.

I know a guy who recently bought an Aurion and he has just fitted a K&N filter - in his words after fitting;
"I bought the k&n.. little bit more growl under the hood but not much. As for go... maybe a little bit better"

Yep, I managed to set it and myself on fire one day. Mongrel bloody thing wouldn't start and got a bit flooded, so i pulled the plug out to clear it. "I'll just put the plug lead out of the road so it doesn't spark", says the brain. Which was a fine idea until the fuel mixture was exhausted out of the plug hole, and managed to ignite itself..... It wasn't my mower, but my flatmate's, and the look on her face when she saw us both burning was quite amusing! Ed

While we are on mower stories, my dad and his neighbor across the road were both mowing their nature strips dad with his push mower neighbor big ride on, neighbor runs over a golfball.
Golfball flies across the road and smacks the old man in the head just above temple and knocks him out cold. Can laugh about now it but jeez he was lucky. |
