I have both VE UTE and sedans and stock for stock the UTE is not more bouncy than the sedan.

Back in the day of the HQ to WB it was the case but the newer VE and VF are heavier than the sedan.

The reason, the old models had a full chassis where the new models don’t and need extra metal to stiffen them up therefore they end up being heavier. They are also longer than the sedan and the sedan is faster because of it.

They feel and ride like a sedan, it’s hard to pick the difference.

Fitting isn't the issue, it fitted up well right from new, I guess the fact it was hot helped. I think my brother was getting at the fact if you loaded anything that protruded above the tub the cover would be useless. I guess the hooks and elastic loops were a bit more forgiving in that respect.

Hint: If you look at the underside of the soft tonneau cover on a VE UTE, you'll see the elastic robe with hooks that connect to the edge channel around the tray. They're hidden away during normal use.

The tonneau cover is also adjustable at the cross front bar. It has 3 stages of adjustment to tighten or loosen the cover though leaving it in the sun for a little while is also a good trick.

I can't see why there would be a difference and if there is, the VE soft covers are available from the dealers and also as aftermarket if you want to go cheaper. The trays are the same so they would fit.

Don't worry they can hold the weight. Yellow tongue flooring on the roof plus filling the tray. Also had all my tools in it.

I cant see carrying capacity for ssv on the holden site.......... towing max is listed at 1600 with the auto, on another site they say carrying is 500 kg...... but dont quote me on that.

drove a mates ssv ute that had a canopy/cabin thing on the back
hey it was ok but i wouldnt buy one
plus i like to rub it in that the turbo was still quicker than his v8 lol
he ended up trading down to an earlier model ss wagon...in that lime green color

Found another problem - Boof heads.

The wife and I went for a drive last night through the Adelaide Hills, to run the motor in a bit. Twice within 10 minutes of each other a VY SS and a then BF wagon are flooring it to within inches of my rear and then backing off. First the VY, then the BA does it to him and over takes to do it to me. I was following the speed limit.

Before I'd even heard of the VF I looked at the Ford utes, their lack of V8 was a disappointment. I contemplated the turbo, I reckon it's a great engine, but I really wanted a V8 but kept looking at the turbo. Then I saw a VF ute, I like the look and it is the most up to date Aussie car built.

If you're a blue blooded ford man you'd better stick with a Ford, because you'll always have regrets. I've always liked all sorts of cars, our family has had Aussie, English, Japanese and Yank.

GEES they are good ,they can carry half a dozen planks ,and a few tools ,,my old bf ute had a cleveland ,c4 and a 9in diff in the back and never even went down to the over rider springs ,why dont you holden lovers go back to your forum ,i HATE HOLDENS and im glad they went back to mumma ,a pox on them

More than a few sheets mate. I carry over 600kg of tools daily and those sheets were another 600 to 700 kg. not bad for irs. After owning this ute I wouldn't hesitate getting a ss over a xr6t. FYI I have also had a fg xr8 ute.

Oh and I'm not a holden lover. I'm a car lover. This ute is being replaced with a ranger in 8 months. If it performs for 4 years as well as the ve has I will be very happy

Personally if I was just after power the Ford wins hands down.

If I was after something more along the lines of a modern day cruiser with a bit of kit, I’d take the VF.

If it’s a purchase based on price alone, again the SS would win.

Be sure of what you want and buy which ever suits. Both will do a reasonable job.

Fg ute has inner clips on elastic rope on the inner of the ccover so you can still use it with protruding loads - I guess ford engineers are a little bit more intuitive lol.

Given that you couldn't register a car from 2005 with an engine from the 70's/80's, it would be far sillier if anyone took the comment seriously.

That photo just reminded me a few years ago(building an amart all sports store) another supervisor wanted to load some yellow tongue sheets into the back of one of our 2 new ve utes. I warned him......but he used a forklift.....loaded way to much on and it bent the whole back of the ute in half. Was the funniest thing I've ever seen. Idiot

my work ute is a 2006 crewman ss thunder, done 140k and runs as good as new , had no problems, just replaced starter motor and water pump. they are built well and go hard , i get 14ltr per 100 around town and 8-9 sitting on 110 on the hwy so isnt a thirsty car for the weight

Thanks everyone for the input. Dont get me wrong, I love my Fords, I own an FG GTE and an XB GS, but presently the holdens have better options when it comes to the utes I think, and who better to give a non biased opinion than us Ford fans. Imagine the feedback on the holden forums, the SS would have been the best car ever made!! As for the turbo 6's, I know they are rediculously quick, but in all honestly, where I drive rarely gets over 80k/h so it is really the **** factor of the sound of the v8's that I like. I do like the GS range, but for what you pay for them, you really dont get the in-cabin goodies that the holdens offer unfortunately. Ill prob hold out and see what the new FPV/FG/FH range has to offer, and fingers crossed they finish on a high.
