No. The only sort of information they can get out of any wireless device in your car is your travel history and anything that is stored within the radio of your car. They cannot, I repeat, CANNOT, take any sort control of your vehicle when the only things that they can get any sort of access to is the bluetooth within your radio player and if applicable your sat nav. Furthermore it's not like they can steal credit card details from your radio. It's as if someone broke into your car and started reading stuff off the screen. Nothing condemning and nothing of huge importance can be seen.
Yes...the last time I checked, the bluetooth on my stereo for the phone wasn't linked to my accelerator or braking system...

Many new cars ARE linked remotely through GPS systems -

like remote start/stop, if you lose ur keys, or car is stolen etc.

Even if your car itself isn't hacked you could still have trouble - ie if the broader GPS system is hacked and your cars is 'tricked'.

Yeah cos you're going to go offroad because your GPS tells you what you're on isn't in fact a road.

Maybe not today but what about in the future when your car is on autopilot to allow for close quarters, high speed 'trains'

Quite sure that if someone wants to kill you, they'd do something a little more primitive. Like maybe cut your brake lines.

Don't need to be hacked for that to happen with Sensis maps fitted to built-in GPS.
From Gosford to Brookvale via Palm Beach.

Dont need to be hacked for people to be stupid enough to turn left when it tells them to.

A British university is delaying the release of an academic paper on how the anti-theft systems of millions of Volkswagen vehicles are at risk of being hacked after the German carmaker took legal action against it.
In a statement, the University of Birmingham said it would "defer publication" of the paper which explains how researchers were able to subvert Volkswagen's security system after an interim injunction issued by England's High Court. It said it was "disappointed with the judgment which did not uphold the defence of academic freedom and public interest, but respects the decision."

In terms of the public Volkswagon interest it would be best to not publish wouldn't it? And instead provide the detail to Volkswagon to then do something about it.

Seems like a sneaky development with planned long term strategic benefits for the car makers.
Come the year 3000, every car with an ECU will be affected by the Y3K millenium bug and deemed non operable, forcing every person around the globe to buy a new car.
