An extreme adventure between two oceans
The Dakar 2009 is off to discover a new continent, South America that offers unlimited possibilities to amateurs of wide open spaces. The round trip to Buenos Aires, via Valparaiso is a challenge in which the most enduring competitors will find their way and have the opportunity to distinguish themselves. With close to 6,000 kilometres of specials and difficulties scattered on the whole course, the battle for the title will remain wide open until the finish. Loved the Dakar, shame it had to be cancelled, will be watching for this no worries.
Slightly off topic, I see Ewan McGregor and his side kick will be having a show on SBS soon where they're riding from Scotland to Oz I think, these are really good. They did the Dakar a few years ago and it gave a real insight to what it's like to compete.

SBS Jan 4th 6:00pm
Dakar Rally One of the toughest races in the world, the Dakar Rally has moved from its home in Africa to a new continent for its 2009 edition. In January, South America will play host to more than 550 adventurers from all corners of the world as cars, trucks, motorbikes and quads race through 6000 kilometres of merciless terrain. Beginning in Buenos Aires both amateur and professional drivers will navigate the spectacular, and often brutal, countryside of Argentina and Chile during the 15-stage on- and off-road endurance event. In the ultimate test of stamina and strength, the participants will find themselves experiencing South America at its most diverse. From crossing the Andes and negotiating their way through the Atacama Desert, the Dakar offers nature at its stunning best and often most punishing. (From France) (Sport) This will be good. The Australian entrant has said" we go out and must expect not to return" This is how tough the 2009 DAKAR will be" http://www.sbs.com.au/dakar2009
