Default Car Insurance FPV

I am looking at purchasing an FPV shortly and have started hunting around for insurance quotes. Can anyone advise me on good companies to speak to. I live in Victoria.

i would say Shannons

the only reason if they give me agreed value on it for 9 grand on my 98 el you would have to get a good deal with an fpv

Shannon here too. They were willing to insure me even though I was under their age bracket. Not to mention they gave me the lowest price as well as unlimited mods and an agreed value.

Try LSV (Lumley Special Vehicles) (previously, VIGIL/TORQUE) they are way cheaper than Shannons. It cost me less for three cars than just the Mustang with Shannons.

I have got a quote from Shannons. I tried a few others on the net and even though I am 33, perfect driving record etc some out right rejected me, for example just cars insurance. So was looking for more options. I did email AAMI.

I was rejected by Shannons ....One at fault claim in 15 years, (hail damage - not poor driving) 45 yo, car garaged....rejected without reason.

So stuck with AAMI who have stuck by me for over 15 years through my ex wifes numerous claims- $2,100 p.a - Shannons were a bit higher than that as were Just Cars

Shannons is funny with what they'll insure and what they won't.

I had a XWGT which they were happy to insure under a limited kilometre policy but the reasonably modified Statesman that was my daily driver at the time was an absolute no-no. It was apparently too standard.

However, they had a mates standard Cordia Turbo on their books.

Shannons in Vic. I have 3 cars with them.

It is not just the cost of the policy, but the freedom from hassles. Had a claim (rear ended) couple of years ago and the assessor ADDED items to the list. I used one of the most expensive panel beaters in Melb (Battisti) and Shannons never blinked.

Mates in Sydney with same car have problems - for some reason it is different up there.

Good luck with the purchase.

Not wrong Des....Seems insurance co's in general add a 100% mark up in Sydney...I'm paying $2,100 odd in Sydney while Brent (LSTGHia) is paying $1,000 in Brisbane and he's under 25

I got my STANDARD turbo and rang Shannons, who I was with at the time, for a quote. Quote was double CGU. So went with CGU.

Started mods, CGU wanted to jack it 25% JUST for fitting 19's.

Rang Shannons, spelled out the now MODIFIED turbo, and they came in just above where the original CGU quote was. They just dont like stockers!

And I live in the comfort my mods are spelt out.

Just got a quote from Shannons for my gt-p which is driven 1-2 times per month. Quoted $850, which is about $80 more than i pay now. He said i could get $20 off my premium for my coupe, which is $220. Go figure!

Shannons on my new 2007 GT-P was $1800 for me garaged in QLD, $650 excess from memory, agreed value 62.5k.
They outright admitted to me they werent as competative on the newer cars.
My XAGT coupe is insured with them for 100k and the policy is only 1k P.A.
I got the GT-P insured through Suncorp for 1k P.A. with 1 free screen a year, new for old in first 12 months, then market value.
The only 2 drawbacks are 1k excess if I make a claim, and when it is a year old, market value will make the car way under insured.

I could have gone via Lumley too, but they required a GPS tracker to be fitted to the car before they would give me the policy, and the premium was 1k flat with 600 excess.

So come renewal time, I will be going elsewhere, getting agreed value and a company that is ok with bolt on mods.

Was 36yr old then, 1 speeding fine 3 yrs ago and 1 minor accident little over 2 yrs ago, not my fault but I had to make the claim. They dont differenciate those things, and all the companies said none of those things impacted on my eligibility to qualify for insurance anyway.

Plus my GT-P is daily driven with no limitations or restrictions of use.

Be interesting to hear what Sydney FPV owners are paying.

Good reason for a group buy I think

Redrum.............if you're thinking of buying a new BOSS FPV , the premiums may be higher as there is a rumour that they may not be ADR emissions compliant..........this makes them very risky to insure............. ( Only having a light hearted joke mate :-) )

...........make sure you post pics of the new beast when you get it.

In all seriousness , I can also recommend Shannons in VIC. They've been looking after me with all my FORDS for years. I'm paying around $1040.00 Full comp , minimum kays per year in secure lock up garage with alarm. BFGT

The best combination of cheapest - both in terms of premium and excees - and policy that I've been able to find are Ryno Insurance.

They are underwritten by Lloyd's, which is good, but I haven't ever dealt with them claim-wise, and haven't managed to find anyone that has. It would be good to find this out before I commit.

You may want to give them a call: www.rynoinsurance.com.au.

Better put on the flame suit now.

.............Based on the pricing of their spare parts and additional warranty plans...........I reckon there wouldn't be change from $4000 for a premium comprehensive policy for any FPV............NO THANKS.

Just rang shannons and they said that they specialise in insuring "Motoring Enthusiasts".. ie must be involved in some sort of motoring club - basically said they would not offer insurance to us at all on our new FG XR6 Turbo. My wife & I are both 40 + and both on rating 1..
"Just Cars" quoted $900 premium, with $1400 excess (or $2400 if car stolen).
Suncorp has been the best quote so far for us personally - around $800 premium with $750 excess. RACQ was also similar.
