hey is this a good deal? my cousin's cousin is selling his xe falcon for $400. he used to drive it around but now he drives an eb2.
the xe ran out of rego in august. it has been in his family for 20 years i think and was driven by his grandfather for 16 of those years. it has 150,000 plus ks and is completely original. he said he fixed the tranmission 1.5 years ago. its pretty straight and has only a patch of paint fading on one of the passenger doors. im not too worried about paint because my dad will re spray it for me. so what does everyone think. will an xe make a good car for a first car or should i look around more? if i buy it ill be buying after new years and i wont be driving it until its fixed up and i have finished my hours and gone for my ps. its a 6 and its automatic. i would prefer manual but ill buy it if it looks the goods. did the xe come out with a 3 speed or 4 speed auto? oh and im not 100 percent sure but it may have had a gas conversion. i was at a cousins party so i didnt hear that but he said somthing about gas. thanks and please comment on what yous think.

If it's neat and runs well it would be a good 1st car.
O/T I have an EB2 for sale for $400.

The XE would be a good starting point, parts are cheap as and are very straight forward to fix. Auto to manual conversions are easy (just buy a manual wreak and swap all the parts) and are highly recomended!

an XE would be a GREAT first car, easy to work on, parts are cheap and easy to get, a much better choice then an EB in my opinion. Plus they can be done up to look great, XEs can look TOUGH!

Yeah, they came with 3 speed auto. Ours is a column shift as well.
On petrol, they can get a little thirsty. About 300-350kms out of a 55L tank. If it's on gas, you're laughing. If it's petrol only, you'll also have to check to see what fuel it can take. Our is LRP only, so we have to fill it with Premium ULP and put the FlashLube additive in as well. It only adds about another $1 to the cost of a tank though. They are great cars. Ours is my late fathers car and it only had 162,000kms on the clock. My father bought it brand new. It also is all original and all stock. Still runs perfectly, even after 22 years. No major work has been done to it, basically just standard servicing and a few wear and tear items.

My dons first car is a ZJ (XD) fairlane. He bought it as it is easy to fix, drives well, solid and shouldnt have to many problems. As said bit thirsty as a 6 crossflow but will be going gas (Dont forget about the $2k rebate!) Parts are everywhere. Go fo it

yeh its got power steering too. im pretty set on it. i havent seen the car but my cousin said its in good condition except for one of the doors. that doesnt bother me because me and my dad are goin to work on it. its original colour is a gold colour but i might change it completely.
i just got a new job and its kind of unreliable. it pays good but hours are scatterd. if i have a good week i can buy it but if not ill wait till after new years. my cousin has a vl turbo and when i get the chance i want to shut him up by putting a 351 in for now though ill keep it stock. ill show you guys pics of it when i buy it and ill do a before and after of it. it should be a good project. wish me luck

You can (I believe) run 95 (premium ULP) through these OK, but we still add the valve saver stuff. To run 92 (ULP), I believe you have to adjust the timing otherwise the car will be pinging it's guts out.

I reckon an XE would make a great first car. I had one for a couple weeks many years ago as a loan car from a crash repair. It was a red XE S Pack auto that had been driven very hard over the years as it was a loaner, but it still kept going.

XE's are bulletproof. I had Fairmont Ghia for over 10 years, the odometer stopped working at 450.000kms! I sold it 2 years later to a mate for $100!
Pretty much all I had to keep replacing were exterior door handles!
