Default "R-Spec" FPVs

I read an article on MOTOR magazine February 2007 issue about how Jost Capito (director of Ford Team RS) is impressed with the F6 and the GT. And in the article, MOTOR mentioned :-


"FPV and Team RS could also share resources to assist FPV in developing its own range of Focus and Fiesta-based high-po small cars.

Before then, FPV is preparing an optional 'R-spec' suspension and handling kit for the Typhoon and GT, with stiffer springs, tuned dampers and unique cosmetic features."

Ive heard the same, no idea on timing though.

Its a good diea to boost interest into an ageing car, not that its really lacking, but more options dont hurt.

It's only the 4 day of January & they have released the February issuse? Getting a bit a head of then self.

Sounds good to me, wonder if you will be able to buy these kits for your older FPV's and say XR's to avoid warrenty issues?

awww god, performance rice.... See what happens....

This R spec, had the opportunity ti discus this with prodrive last year, as they were looking into diversifying the options......

"Track Pack" as it seems, looks to have made it, unless this is just more usual motor BS....

I think there is some truth to this one...its overdue, from what Ive heard the 6SA likes to hibernate once track work gets a bit to much.

Thats about it really.

Why the heck should the after market guys make all the money!

And if you can keep your warranty (not sue if this is true or not, you would think it would be), then thats a huge advantage for Ford/FPV.

Would be good if you could option it on whatever car you wanted too, not just FPV's.

Wonder what the cosmetics will be? hopefully they do a little body-work on the kit to set it apart from a GT. or else the lineup of FPVs that all look the same will be quite high.

If it truly is going to be a "track pack" then some method of cooling the diff is mandatory otherwise it would be a "short track with very few corners pack".

At the end of the day it will be interesting to see how far the pack will go, I know transmission was a key area, other than that I have no idea.

Either way I dont see a pack thats going to please everyone, they have to have their limitations, as most of the components on the car are compromised in some way.

Still its a good, easy idea to make some cash..better than the Force idea anyway.

It is quite common with those who travel at high speed and corner. It is not a problem on drag strips.

When I ran into the Ford/FPV development engineers in 2003 in NT (ah those were the days) the second question I was asked was did I have any problems with diff heat. (The first question was what did I think of the GT-P at high speed).

I personally have boiled my diff twice (that I know of) once at QR, once at Lakeside. The first time I boiled it was on a JB track day so I had a number of conversations with the JB crew and other drivers. 8-10 hot laps or so is all that can be done. It also seems to be worse with stickier tyres.

Any lasting damage after cooking the diff, or just a temporary no-LSD condition?

Didn't cook it, just boiled the oil (a bit), I let it cool down and it was ok. If I had kept playing it would have not been pretty.

C'mon SB, it is pasta joke when you make divisal ad hoc remarks about GM's culinary preferences.

Don Turner (Vice pesendet of the XR club of qld) has cooked his 3 or 4 times while at QR..... He has a Diff cooler now... Problem solved....

Problem is caused be the exhaust be very close to the diff center... the added heat from the exhaust (along with hi-po track work) is what causes the diff oil to boil

A "Track Pack" or "R-spec" or whatever marketing want to call it sounds good, but....doesn't it void your warranty hurtling around a race track? I'm sure I've read a fineprint clause stating this somewhere in the paperwork for my XR.

Also, does this "Track Pack" include a fix for the boiling diff syndrome as mentioned above? If not it's usefulness is pretty limited.

I love how Ford do stuff like this instead of fixing stuff that shouldn't be faulty in the first place (BA diff clunk, stalling XR8s, overheating F6 engine oil anyone). _

All the very qustions that should be getting ask'd. :
If this thing is gonna be called TRACK PAC It better be warrented for exactly that. [but wont]

Remember the 02/03 GT getting spy'd on at the drag strips & then warrenty's getting canceled by Ford, & people running around covering there number plates.... What a feiasco!

You got a drive day thrown in with your new FPV car, then if you went & did a off street drag later & got sprung, goodby warrenty!!!

That HSV thing? I dont know what its called, I think its a [track pac] Clubsport. I wonder if Holden are voiding warrentys if you go out for a club day & someone from Holden spots ya?? :evil_laug

I believe the same edition of motor contains details on Walkinshaws Performance version of the GTS. 370kws and 740 nm at a cost of 130k.

Are they serious? They have their heads so far up there backsides its ridiculous!

Anyone paying over $100k for a new aussie built sedan are seriously on something.

You could get a M3 for that.
