Default taiwanese ford tierra = BA falcon lookalike?

Went over to taiwan last week and there was this one car that caught my eye: 2005 Ford Tierra. The front end resembles something between a BA/BF falcon and the new ford focus. (Looks like they copied the BA falcon somehow with the front end). However the rear end looks more like a VY or a lancer. It appears to be mazda based from the middle section (like the ford laser). I thought it looked quite good and that Ford Aus should have come up with this design for the BF or should import a RHD version of this car.

Check it out:
http://www.ford.com.tw/motor/tierraxt/index.htm

and tell us what you think.

I assume it's a facelifted Laser/323 with a mishmash of Australian and European Ford styling. What was very interesting was the stereo it comes with, it has Bluetooth, iPod, USB and SD Card compatibility. Be nice to have something like that here.

Someone posted some pics of that car a few years ago, it was released a bit before the BA.
Looks like it comes with a mobile phone built into it too...note the Pick up and End Buttons on the dash near the screen..also accepts USB and SD memory cards too...dash function again..not bad for taiwan

What do you mean "not bad for Taiwan" Have you been to Taiwan?? I think you'll find that Taiwan is far more tech savvy than in Australia and gets the newest gizmos months ahead of us and for a lower price too.

The car mentioned here is essentially a Mondeo, slightly restyled and reengineered for Taiwan

It's not Mondeo based, as somebody mentioned before it's Laser/323 based.

I think your thinking of the Metrostar, which is the Taiwanese version of the Mondeo.

oh yeh.. i just remembered seeing the Metrostar. It also seems very BA like from the front end.. maybe more like the fairlane. Also remember seeing one with an XR lookalike front end (maybe done with car eyelid stickers or something).

Fairlane G220 anyone? :p

Toyota, Nissan and Honda have production facilities in Taiwan. Toyota build Camrys there for the local market which are very good, but of course with the usual Toyota dullness. However, I'm anticipating that in time these will close and the same cars will be sourced from China, but I'm definitely hoping they won't.

I'm unsure of the origins of this car, but it's certainly scaring the hell out of those kids in flash intro.

I remember seeing something like this in Indonesia & Singapore a few years ago, except it had an AU "waterfall" grill. It was called "Lynx". It was definitely Laser/323 based.

I remember thinking at the time that I was so glad they didn't sell in Oztralia!

It's Based on the Mazda 323 Protege Platform. I was reading on cardomain that theyre pretty much the same underneath.

It looks OK from some angles, but I aint a fan of the back. Its almost Suzuki Liana from the rear.

EDIT: BTW that 5 lt that Slick Holden is embarrassing is a Ford Grenada. If you think that looks like a Falcon, then see the model before it, It was near Identical to the XD.

Other than a Ford badge what Falcon does that look like SlickHolden? It looks more like a Meteor than a Falcon.

Hang about. Are we trying to suggest that Fords have a common design theme that identifies them as such? Well I'll be! [/sarcasm]
