After checking for the past few years, it appears that Ford rarely rates a mention on this site, whilst Holden always have 4 or 5 different cars featuring in their top stories list. Other sites such as drive.com.au tend to feature both pretty much equally, and their reports also tend to have lots more information in them.
I've had several runins with them myself, especially when they have bagged ford (even when it had just won coty) and heaped praise on the holden instead; writing a spiteful and vitriolic article on why holden should have won. Now, my point is not a Holden Ford war, as I'm sure that both make good cars, but carsguide never praise Ford for anything, and they have just written another article (already 3) on the Holden 6 litre in a VZ. So my question is, has carsguide.com.au the motoring section of the daily telegraph (a paper with its own leftish leanings) given up on presenting unbiased car related news, or are they just another arm of the Holden PR machine?

Anything that Paul Gover writes you need to take with a grain of salt. He’s a Holden man through and through. I think it was last years Bathurst race when a camera was pointed into the HRT garage and there was Gover decked out in all his HRT gear. I don’t have a problem with him being a Holden man as such, however, when it spills over into editorial comment it just becomes boring and predictable. Personally I wouldn’t wipe my *** with the cars guide.
Cheers, Danny

And the used car man, Graeme Smith I think his name is, used terrible. He used to actually be a Holden engineer. In his "Ask Graeme" section the solution to everything is the Commodore. He lost me when he stated out and out that the Commodore was a better car than the Falcon for towing. WTF??

the cars guide is the biggest load of crap, just look at todays edition, front page is that holden throwback the Efigy. its a nice car but its old news no one really cares about it (except Gover) With so many new cars released at the motor show im amazed they didnt have a picture of the Aurion or Territory Turbo .
But then again the herald sun is really just a "Who" magazine printed on different paper. |

Jeez they write some garbage in the Cars Guide.
Cars Guide quote. "People are always asking me when it is coming to Melbourne and when they can see it. Now Efijy is here," the GM Holden designer who created the car, Richard Ferlazzo, says. Maybe my glasses were a little dirty, but didn’t this car make an appearance at the AME (formally Holden V Ford) show in Melbourne last year? Cheers, Danny

I am so sick of that efijy thing, it's never going to be produced, it never was going to be produced, and it was all Holden could do to take peoples eyes off an otherwise lacklustre stand. Also, it was to divert peoples attention from the Daewoo err, Holden territory killer. Maybe Holden spend lots of their money on newspapers?

And I can say these things with relative impunity because someone is taking a forced weeks vacation from the forum.

Working in Holden's marketing department would have to be one of Australia's easiest jobs. There are so many goons in the media tripping over each other trying to write positive things about Holden's.
Journalists are supposed to remain neutral when they write articles but a lot if them seem to allow their personal prejudices to cloud their writing. FF |

The amount of times Gover has had a go at Ambrose was just rediculous. Skaife feeds him with ИИИИ and he regurgitates it.

Agree about webwombat. Wheels also pretty good. What's happened is that a lot of specialist journalism is subcontracted to anybody nowadays. Even the NRMA has got rid of its technical writers (had to take them to task on a history of the Australian car that obviously came from a Holden press release). Any journo can call themselves a motoring writer and bring their own prejudices with them.
