Well
My new boss came around tonight to show me my new company car,
It is a 2005 mazda bravo ex telstra 4WD thing.
Every time you start it the lights come on
CAN THIS BE FIXED?

This is not a standard Mazda option, I'd look under the dash and see if I can find the wire used to bridge the IGN to Lights.

Yep .. Telstra policy. Take it to a auto-elect and it should be a quick fix. I bought my old Telstra Fleet SV8 when I left the "nursing home" and it's still got the lights-on running enabled. Personally I don't mind it and now tend to turn the lights-on on my AU ute when I drive it too ..

Rod.

I use to have it in my AU XR6. The biggest problem I found was i tended to go through globes more often, just switch the lights to parkers during the day.

Sorry but this is bad advice, it is illegal to drive your car with the parklights on, they are to be used only when parked (hence the name).

Volvo's have "daytime running lights" and are a different wattage to parkers. In NSW (at least) it is illegal to drive with just your parkers on. It's either a minimum of low-beam, low-beam and foglights (wet, foggy or dusty) or foglights (wet, foggy or dusty). There's been several threads about this before.

Took over two years for me to blow a globe in the SV8 .. then the second one went about a week later (built in obsolecance [ spelling? ]). I replaced them with some Chinese-made junk I bought at local servo .. they failed in a few weeks. Bought some expensive European globes (can't remember what) and they've been fine for a few months .. brighter than OEMs too.

I also just checked the vicroads website on demerit points, i find no mention of driving with park lights on being a demerit offence.

I would be very interested as to how this an offence and where you go tthe information from.

I 99% of the time drive with my parkers on and have never had an issue and dont want one either.

I Apologize I too cannot find anything, it was a Cop that told me about it, one day I had my parkers on while driving - by accident and he mentioned I need to make sure I either have my headlights on or off as it wasn't legal to drive with park lights on... although it wouldn't be the first time a Cop had given bad advice :

fair enough, cop probably felt to compeled to say something for the sake of saying it.

i believe driving with parkers/headlights on is even promoted as a good practice by RACV and other groups, so it can't be an offence one would think. then again these same groups tell us to be automatics into neutral at a set of traffic lights .......... hmmmmmmmmmmm :

Just had a look. It's the same "rule" numbers in Victoria, though finding the fines are another matter. They are slightly vague I suppose, but as far as I can tell, these are the rulings on how to use your lights.

Is any of this making any sense? What would be the problem with driving with just your parking lights on? During a bright sunny day, they would hardly be noticable? Who puts their parking lights on while actually parking???
