Nash, what is with that pic? Looks a little deformed? Might be the pic quality... Also, the lowering makes the back end WAYYYYYY more stable, and less likely to slide out!

Yep... makes a very big improvement! Mind you, im still on 16s. Running on 18s or 19s (dunno if they would fit, firstly) i think the benefits would be less noticeable. You must remember, the lighter (smaller) the rims, the less unsprung weight and hence the easier the car handles.

But yes, the lowering improved the rear end ALOT. I think firstly, the car is lower and corners better with the rear closer to the ground, and then the weight transfering to the outter side of the car is less due to the more stable body roll, hence balancing the rear end is much easier.

IMO, the way my Fiesta is now, is the way it should have come from Factory (esp after i cleaned it today )

woah.... hold your horses there....

lowering a car does not necessarily reduce body roll

prime example, cut springs

what reduces body roll are increased rate springs, and/or anti roll bars

lowering the car, in the way you have done so far, only serves to lower the centre of gravity. ill bet you dont even know what spring rates you have

you should also get matched dampers to accomodate for the reduce suspension travel, but with only 35mm i guess you can still get away with oem dampers

secondly, would you like to justify, or explain, in your own words, how balancing the rear end is easier with the alleged "more stable body roll"??

Josh, teki was talking about his pedders sports springs.
If he had meant to say chopped springs he would of.

Chopped springs are illegal and quite stupid, i hope noone on this forum tries this.

Generally speaking sports springs are 25-30% stiffer than standard springs and in tekis case the springs are 35mm lower than standard.

Even though this is only mild lowering the lower centre of gravity and firmer springs help the car to be more stable through corners.

Lets not try to make a debate out of every comment??? agreed????

Hey, who rattled your cage?

No need to get all high and mighty on someone who is posting about how happy they are with their car. Noone wants to hear that.

Lowering the car in the way that these people did will reduce bodyroll as none of them just cut their springs, I think that it was fairly obvious. Every car in this thread suffers less bodyroll as a final result of the work done while lowering. Full stop.

Yes, everyone could put new shocks in, but why bother when the cars have only been lowered to a set level, well inside the OEM shocks capability. Noone here is trying to make a race car! If you want to see real suspension work, have a look under my rally car, thats real suspension! I don't want shocks and dampers so firm in my road car that you need a kidney belt to drive it to the shops! Thats for my rally car. I don't see why Teki would need to know his shock rate either. he isn't racing his car. To him, it's firmer and more responsive than what it was before, and he's happy with it. If he wanted it firmer later on, a quick phone call would find out that information and he could chase up firmer ones later on. End of story, everyone's happy.

In my case where I am rallying my Escort, knowing your spring rate is important for setup, because I can adjust just about every part of the suspension in my car to suit the track. Only then does it become important.

It's also clear that Teki was commenting on the car being more stable as the bodyroll is reduced, so you don't have that swinging feeling when the body tilts over 45 degrees like alot of stock cars do (that is an exageration before you type out a reply saying that no car tilts 45 degrees, and that I don't know the exact degrees my car rolls in a corner) that you have to catch and correct.

Remember, it's just the internet. Breathe a second. If you feel like you're only going to come into a thread to flame the person who is excited about something they have done to their car, then don't. Even if you feel you know the world about your car and all the right terms, not everyone may, so bear that in mind.

It's a friendly place to talk about your cars and things, so enjoy it.

Peace out. :

Tim

Agreed with Mitch and Timmeh. I own a road car, and no intention of racing it. However, it does like corners, and i have managed to make it hug the corner much more now. How does reducing body roll not make a car stable??

Josh, was it not you a few weeks back that explained how the Fiesta wasnt living to your expectations and wasnt handling too great... only for you to go through the twisties with a few XRs and hence change your mind....

Not everyone knows little details about their cars, but i sure do know that the Fiesta DOES handle great for its $$$ and that lowering it just improved this.

yeah its great that this is such a nice place to be friendly in, but my point is that people have a tendency to make a modification, think its the ducks guts (which it may be) and then offer some explanation based upon little or no knowledge of what actually made the difference.

someone else who reads that may think "hey, thats brilliant" and then use that incorrect information at a later stage. propagation of misinformation.

Default New pics of lowering

So your saying that lowering a car makes no improvement to the cars handling???

why is it such a common modification then..?

everyone that has had lowering done can feel a positive difference in the cars handling, if thats the case then thats all that matters.
Im getting my car lowered very soon because i know ill feel more confident in a car that has slightly firmer suspension and doesnt roll around as much.

I think Josh gave his opinion in his response above then in a fair way, I don't think he was saying that it didn't give an improvement at all either though.

I think we all know that a car with firmer suspension and closer to the ground will handle better, and it becomes a trade off between handling, tyre wear, and comfort. You end up finding what you're happy with, and enjoy it.
