Thumbs up Race a V8....

Howdy All,
Has anyone done the Race a V8 Experience??? Mates and I went and gotta tell ya the only dissapointing part was when that checkered flag came out and it was over. Also the fact that you only got used to the speed and car to open her right up - on the 5th and final lap!!!!!! Great day had by all........
The guys running the show and instuctors were great fun and kept pushing you to go flat out!! Those guys must have nerves of steel or nappies on!!!!
Cheers

My better half got it through Freeman Experience and they do all sorts of stuff from formula fords to Jet aeroplanes - they are an avenue to V8race.com so its the same guys running the event.
Must do - you will love it :sm_headba :sm_headba

Good news for the Commie Lovers!!!!

They (V8 Supercar Experience) have now purchased a few Commodores and will be in the process of tricking them up - so your wish has been granted.. - They may take a while cause it is nearly impossible to get them up to speed producing the same performance by the new BA's they also just got!!!!!!! :evil_laug

We did it at Eastern Creek raceway - and you feel a huge difference in take off/and pickup - did a little over 210km/h down the straight and the feeling of going around turn 1 @ 170km/h is unreal. You dont go under third gear the whole way around the track and the car feels like its on train tracks (I didnt realise the difference between road tyres and slicks) chalk and cheese! The sound in the car is very similar to that ball tearing Supercar scream when changing up and down gear...... I will be doing it again but saving pennys for a 10 lap tour....
Cheers

My sister did this at QLD Raceway today, said it was the graetest, only disappointment was they were restricted to 4th gear down the straight ,only about 160kph. Short circuit too. Their bottom corner doesn't have the same runoff as Eastern Creek and less slope on a shorter straight. :eclipsee_

I did it today at Calder and i gotta say BLODDY AWESOME! You only use 3rd and 4th, cause theres not enough room to get into 5th. And i tell ya what, man it was good.
Just don't get the AU if ya can, cause that thing went into service twice, the second time to get a gearbox changed.
But nothing beats the sound of the V8's there! Thank-you calder and Ash!

I'm doing this on the 5th of November at Calder Park...

I was saying not long ago to my wife that I'd like to drive a V8 because I never have...now I am...a V8 SUPERCAR!!!
It was from my wife and daughters for my 30th.

I did read on another thread though that Calder has grass growing through the track. Is that true? I wouldn't think you could race if that was the case.

Did anyone buy the $45 in-car video of their ride? Worth it?

Yep did it at QR about 12 mths ago before I put my XR8 on the same track
Yes you do have the roll cage , bare interior , slicks and tight suspension and it is loud and proud BUT I was pulling a highter top speed in my XR8 than the QR one down the front straight in road trim : mine was about 170 and the V8 expierence was only about 160 or less and it can boogie around the bends and the premium brakes on my XR8 were 100% better then what was on the V8 I do not know if they were just fragged or under size as I did not pay attention to them
I could not complain it was a birthday gift and fun to the max

I just received two vouchers for my birthday for FreemanX for five and eight laps at Calder. Has anyone done it recently and is the in car video worth buying.

I have booked in for the 5 laps on the 30th March in one of the Fords, the only thing I have to do now is refresh myself with a manual as all the cars are manual. Unfortuantely the only manual cars in my family is my dad's base level Focus, it is a bit lacking in power compared to the GT-P but I don't have any other options at the moment.

regards

Steven

It will take 2 seconds to get the manual thing happening, it comes straight back to you and is natural, 5 laps in never enough.

Sometimes if you're ok and you have a good instructor he might lket you take 1 or 2 more laps. The guy I had let me have 6 as on lap 2 there were a few guys holding me up and they wouldnt move off the set line to allow me past

As for the video, it's pretty crap but you end up buying it anyway. On my one the shot automatically changes from the driver shot to the out front shot and always ends up showing me driving when I wanted to see the cornering etc out front.

I thought the cars at Calder park were a little disapointing. Make no mistake, they are NOT ‘V8 Supercars’ They are mostly VX and AU SS and XR8’s basically stock with race pads. The extra grip is 90% in the slicks with a little bit of improvement also coming from the firmer (rock hard) suspension and severe negative camber angles they run on them help with the initial turn in. The cars are striped out and fitted with a full roll cage and a body kit. They run straight through exhaust that exit under the rear door, a bit of tuning, CAI and headers is about all the mods they get. You only get to drive on the short track. Don’t get me wrong, I had a ball but I was just a little disappointed at the constant reference to V8 Supercars, I actually went there thinking they were old V8 Supercars that were past their Use By Date for racing but they are not. All that said it was still good fun and knowing that you’re quite safe inside that big steel cage makes for a genuine adrenaline rush. Just don’t go there thinking that you’re gunna get to drive a V8 Supercar!

I just had my V8 Race Experience at Calder Park on Sat morning! Would have been nice to do it on a larger track as the Calder track is quite small.
As said earlier on in this post the brakes are fantastic and these cars do also have ABS but it didn't kick in even though I was braking quite hard at the end of the straight.
The only problem is that it is over too quickly. Just as you are getting used to the car and getting faster.....it's over. I was lucky and had 9 laps all up with no traffic.
Now that I know the track I will do it again in the near future and will go fast straight away :evil3:

I got a ride in a Maserati for my 14th birthday around Phillip Island raceway. It was actually 5 days until my birthday, and they said no, you have to be 14... I guess you could say I wasn't very happy, but we then found out you had to be 12 so I got my fun. We got up to 250 on the straight and we were on the track at the same time as a Ferarri F40. Needless to say it was my best birthday present i've got..

have the "v8 supercars" got a sequential gearbox or just conventional h pattern? also how much rpm is needed to get it going out of the box as real v8 supercars your mr average would stall 10 times before they got used to the clutch.just curious to see how realistic they are!!!

the real V8 supersars have a sequential box, these cars run standard road car drive train, see my post above.

320rwkw????? not a chance the cars are hi milage standard engines with the exhaust cut off and a tune. 280 - 300 at the flywheel if you get a healthy one!

getting them off the line? as easy as your standard SS or XR8 cus thats what they are!!

^^^yeah I saw that yesterday morning, some nasty injuries and I have no idea how you would do that. I dont know all the facts but I reckon you would have to be acting up to get into that much trouble.

The instructor usually keeps things under control.

This on the v8 Supercars site.

V8 Supercars Australia wishes to place on record that a vehicle involved in an incident at Queensland Raceway yesterday was incorrectly described by several media outlets as a V8 Supercar.

The purpose built ‘ride’ car operated out of Queensland Raceway has very little in common with a V8 Supercar and has never been registered as a V8 Supercar.

The only similarity is that the car involved in the accident had a V8 engine, as do many makes of vehicle.

V8 Supercars Australia extends it’s wishes to those involved in the accident and their respective families.

As usual the media making it out to be something it is not. Or they just have NO idea. Or both.
