Hi. Don't know if anyone ever repaired them but were the same on XD and XE falcons and then changed to a plastic unit on XF through to AU falcons. Don't know if the plastic ones are a direct fit but they may adapt to the early heater case. Cheers MD

Re: Cortina Ghia 1981 Actuator Vacuum Control Module the plastic ones on the XF to AU Falcons are not interchanageable with the setup of XD to XE Falcons. This may assist if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. Now to find a source that can replace the diaphragm. And thank you Michael for your input

If the later pods dont work (or cant be modified to fit) the other option may be to look at the pods from the XA/XB/XC range (aussie "GT falcon parts supply type companys) and maybe from early 70's mustangs (US Mustang and other ford parts supply companys). Cheers MD

Hi. The HVAC unit in the australian cortinas was unique to our cars with parts used from the falcon range of the same era. Cheers

hi
Sounds like this was a kit produced by an aftermarket supplier exclusive to Ford . To this current day many aftermarket companies supply to OEM . Although the peak was the 70`s--90`s .
Try other brands that used vacuum actuators . Holden used USA GM , worth a try .
GM used metal can type .

Not sure if I would describe them as aftermarket, more like a third party supplier.
Car manufacturers make very little themselves, and outsource instead to other companies. Often they'll make parts for many different brands.
Ford and Holden shared some exact parts over the years

Hi. Ford tended to use vacuum motors (what I call "pods") on cars with factory fitted HVAC on the XA/XB/XC and cable controls on heater only cars in the same range. From the start of the XD all cars shared the same HVAC unit but cars without AC missed out on an evaporator (and the rest of the ac components). Other than heater flap control (temp range) all other functions were controlled by vacuum motors. The cortinas continued with the same type of controls as the XA-XC (vac pods on factory HVAC and cable control on heaters. Cheers MD

hi
If the vac pod actuator is broken and a metal crimp construction I`m sure this can be opened , swearing alot in the process .

Either weld a lever bar on the can and lever the crimped lip open . Grind slots every 25mm and lever sections one at a time .
or grind crimp edge but a crimp ring need to be made . Crimp in a press .
All this after u have replaced the rubber diaphram

That'd help immensely.

Is the car a 4 or 6cyl? If its a four I have boxes of factory a/c stuff for Escort / Cortina with the pinto engine, I'm sure I could dig something out.
