Hmm. Plundering and Treasure Island. A part in me hates these stupid opportunistic pigs. Hope their vessels all sink in the ocean. And thinking of it, despite the amount of automotive choice it would give us, we shouldn't allow secondhand cars in, imagine the opportunity for these opportunist pigs to steal vehicles on demand anywhere across the globe, dump it on a shipping container and cash out legitimately on our shores..

Not as easy as you think, ask the guys already bringing cars in, you have to have paperwork (certificate of title, registration etc) in to Australian authorities before you even ship and in some countries, you have to get approval form the originating country before you can even load.

Comply the model of car, pay to get it crash tested and see what it needs for ADR. And then source as many of these cars, from any source, use pinched ones for spares, repaired ones sold as good used ones. Bottom feeders. Better off let the consumer choose their new/ex-demo online and DIY import, more adventurous and for those who don't want to, let them visit the local official importer for the brand such as Ford Australia.

I've Imported a few WRX's ., The main thing here is "compliance" and letter to offload from ship.. All I've had to fit is baby restraint brackets .. Normal pink slip check in NSW ..As private import..

Didn't need to go through a middleman? If not, that's exactly how it should be done. Blood boils at these middlemen looking to make an easy buck from what the consumer can do themselves .

As with anything, there are good and bad ones, however, they are just providing a service and god forbid making a dollar at the same time. |

On the bright side if someone wants a car that manufacturer decided not to import to Australia - it will be possible to import it privately. Focus ST wagon or S-Max becomes a possibility .

If the thing meets UNECE regulations, then in theory it shouldn't be that hard, accepting that our ADR's are increasingly ghosting those in any case.
