Default what was you best /favourite car of all times

I had a few mates over last night and we got chatting on what was the best favorite car you ever owned

now I have had a few cars I am 61 and had my license for some time but the Sigma I had was some thing I hatted to sell but with unleaded fuel on the way and serious engine problems it was a much regretted sale

I got it from a farmers son in Dandaragan and the plate number was DN.4259

This son put duel electric carbys, the rear diff was changed and in 5th gear this thing love the remote country roads and the low profile tyre s made a fantastic trip it also had a decent alloy bull bar 2 ltr engine went like a pocket rocket with the additional carby

big difference from a huge XB wagon

so what was your one car you really loved?

It is hard to say I had many and loved most cars I have owned.

Had heaps of fun in my old 40 series cruiser, loved driving my EL XR8 5 Speed, LOVE my BF GT, Our current cars are great, another great car was a TE Cortina S Pack 250 4 speed. Even had a Datsun 180B fitted with a 200B engine and a 4 speed manual, paid $800 for it back in the day, then there is the XB GT Sedan daily driver, when no one wanted them, Daihatsu Feroza, was fun off road

My all time favourite is my XB Coupe that I still own, but my XB Ute is really getting up there, love driving that thing.

If I had to pick one car to keep the XB Coupe would be it.

Well I have only owned two cars so I do not have the wide variety of experience as a lot would have around here.

I currently have a WRX so from pure performance point of view it far exceeds the only other by heaps. It is slowly becoming less daily friendly but still pleasant enough.

But my very first car was a '89 TX5 Ghia and it was fantastic. Very comfy, reliable and had decent amount of power. I actually drove it more if I recall correctly when I had the overlap of owning both at the same time.

Very short list...long way back in time.

My first car...as with women, you never forget your first.

A tiny little 1953 Austin A30 sedan. Had a hell of a laugh driving around, owned it for years as a second car. Sold it on to a car yard in a clean swap for an AP5 Valiant Regal, who then sold it to a truckie, who drove it to Sydney, and it apparently ended up in Tully, north Queensland. (So if anyone has seen it...)..

Second...of course...was my VH Charger. Owned it for about a year and sold it, but it left a brand on my heart that has lasted until earlier this year when I finally bought another Charger.

And this is the one I have just bought.

As a runner-up there would be our little 1971 GT Cortina...what a car. Another one we shouldn't have sold...

I started with a 97 Daewoo leganza. Before I hear too much trash talk the body and interior were the best parts of the car. It was gifted to me by my parents in 2002 as it wasn't tradeable with 40k on the clock but the major issues were engine related. When woo folded and holden took up the service reigns (full circle... how many holdens aren't made in Korea? ) I paid for a water pump to be replaced (which is the timing belt tentioner on a c20sed built in geelong) and with the new timing belt and pulleys, 6 weeks later and 4 bent valves it was a ride on a tilt tray. That was my only major issue with a car that was 27k and had all the features of something more expensive. Bum (I won't even call them mechanics) service techs made the mistakes. Anyhow, traded it in with 250,000k's in 2010 for a shiny lighting strike 08 fairmont ghia. In 06 when they started popping up I said to my girlfriend (now wife) I want one of those. Now not to turn it into a what you have thread but back to what you had. As a kind gesture, my brother had to do the front ball joints in his ed wagon around 2 years ago. Myself having a work car the shrine was a 2 week loaner. The ed still doesn't have ball joints... my ghia has only given my brother career advancement. Am I dirty about it? No. He's my older brother. I worked hard to get the car I wanted, yes I still want it

I miss my MQ patrol shorty. Been gone nearly 10 years now, still one of the best cars I've owned. Spent a fair (for a young bloke just out of school) bit of dosh on it (around 5k.in the engine). Started out as an L28 n/a carb, ended up as a 3.1L stroker, blow thru turbo (some sort of second hand thing I got cheap). Ended up with 272rwhp @ 18psi. Made for quite the monster off road (pending you took some spare fuel) and on road. Didn't much like if in the wet, coupled with mud tyres it would spin without much provocation. I really regret not just sacking up.and driving it to NSW from WA when I moved back home. Not long after I sold it I heard it was getting wrecked out after a prang.

Hearin ya on the fuel issue. My little 253 would do about 25l/100kms on the road. In the bush it was horrendous and with twin side pipes it was hard not to get up it all the time

Mine was my first car, HZ ute, was original matching numbers 253 column 3 speed, a mate raced AMCA speedway so we built the 253 into a 300HP 7000rpm screamer, put in a speco close gate floor shifter, after it chewed that box apart in a few months went a W58 supra 5 speed, 4.11 diff gears, would leave most new fords and Holdens for dead until the LS1 came out in the early 2000s that put me back in my box

Great Thread!

My favorites;

TC Cortina - 250 4 spd Borg Warner with a lumpy cam. Why - because it was my first car
XD Fairmont Ghia - 351 4sp Auto - 1st V8 I owned
BF MKII GT - The Beast (as named by my son)
G6ET - Man that thing went hard
Back in my GT (long story)

PS - I've had a few more Fords in between

Unfortunately - no photos of the XD, but here are the rest

When it was brand new

I had an immaculate Blue TC 250 4 speed that I wrote off when some clown decided red was green. I've owned countless 'hero' cars since, but that Cortina still ranks as the car I regret losing the most.

If I was to measure my means vs my car, that Tina was it. She was a gem.

The power to weight ratio was just awesome - gave many a V8 a run for it's money (well up to 100 or so )

Edit: And it only cost me $600 in 1986 - mind you, that was my wage for a month back then!

That reminds me of back in the day as a p plater when my brother lost his licence for an extended period so I drove his wb ute with a 185i injected 304 from a 96 clubsport in it for a few years. Back then it was mega quick, these days a standard xt falcon or anyother white good would leave it for dead, especially around corners. The ute sounded good though, the exhaust ended about 2 inches behind the cabin...

304s are still a good cheap donk to throw in them, just a sump and pickup swap, either proper extractors or some short 4 into1s from a commodore will fit, higher flow fuel pump and a half clever auto sparky has you off and racing for a couple of grand, they still perform pretty good in a 1400kg car

It wasn't a bad thing at all, but it was cop bait. The thing had a th700, mini spool in the 10 bolt, chip, and extractors and exhaust. It looked the part with the full caprice front end, mirrors and sideboards plus the interior, the electric mirrors and windows worked too (the rear window buttons did nothing for some strange reason....) flat tarp on the back with all holes filled, painted bare metal in midnight blue that looked purple at any angle. 185 was probably closer to 200, but still. With springs in the front and reset leafs in the rear, on factory brakes, wet weather driving was left to a needs basis. Speed bumps were a calculated risk. Fast in the day, and somehow or another got me married these days, my ghia (currently driven by my brother who owned sed ute) is the car I long for. It does everything better, except sideways and noise. And it has 4 doors

It's hard to pick. I've only had 3 cars and they've all been good in their own different ways. At the moment, I'd probably say my XR50T ute, but it's still fairly new to me. It certainly does put a smile on my face!

The EA, my first car that I still own 14 years later. It's had it's issues but it's an old car that really hasn't had the easiest life. It's stood up well in the couple of accidents I had in it, and while it does need a fair bit of work, it's aged pretty well. I certainly have a lot of memories in this car.

My AU. It wasn't pretty, it was a little bit rough around the edges but in the 5 years of ownership, it did not break down once. While it's now ticked over past 300,000kms, the engine is still unopened, the gearbox is original, it's done everything asked of it. By comparison, the EA hasn't done that many more kms and has had to have most of the driveline replaced. My only criticisms with the AU are some serious rust, a lot of rattles and the heater core failing twice.

The FG. Easily the fastest and most comfortable car I've owned. In the few months I've owned this, I've been extremely happy with it. The engine is a gem, the seats and legroom are awesome, I love how it looks. So far I can't be happier!

Default Re: what was you best /favourite car of all times

It'd have to be my Escort RS2000, my first car, got a speeding ticket on the way home from picking it up. I drove it to tafe, work and every where in between for a few years before putting a cage and hot engine in it to do some track days and motorkhanas... I've just spent five years restoring it, mainly fixing the damage I did to it making it a 'hotrod' It's taught me everything I know, other than what a multinova looks like I learned how to drive, weld, paint and build engines. It was finished in time for a drive twenty years to the day that I bought it and it'll never leave my hands...
